Bought this so we could remotely control temps while contractors are working on our home and we could be out of town. The BIG problem is that when the electricity goes off, this thermostat will not automatically reconnect to wifi or allow a reconnection via the app. Instead, it requires taking the front off the unit to reenter the WiFi name/password. I would call that a "dumb" thermostat! Going back to the Honeywell we had at our last house where we never had this problem

I wanted to get a smart thermostat that didn't require a "C" wire. Well this fit the bill, installed it will average difficulty. After a few days, I noticed that I was always cold. I decided to test Sensi and was shocked to find it was off by 2 to 3 degrees. I had it set at 75 and it would cool to 72. No way to adjust that I could find, so back it went.

The Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat came in a small box with instructions as well as what I needed to install it including the batteries.
Since it is a smart thermostat, it does need to be connected to the Wi-Fi so you will need that and the password, also download the application and a Philips screwdriver to put it onto place.
The installation was super easy since the application is very helpful; they even have videos to show how to do it and they even include a phone number just in case.
Once the thermostat is installed then it is very easy to use, on the thermostat basically just touch to the desired temperature and on the application has a lot more options. I can schedule the temperature so it gets to the right temperature when before I get there. This thermostat is for my office so, sometimes I would forget to change the temperature when I was not there, with this new Sensi I can change it from my phone.
The thermostat also gives reminders on when to clean the system as well as change the filters, I like this because I often forget to change the filter.
The thermostat does work on Gas, Electric and Boiler/Radiant heat. Also it works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant as well as Samsung SmartThings so it is complete.
I also like the way it looks, simple, clean and smart.
I really like how easy the installation was and also how easy the application is to use.

As a homeowner seeking convenience and efficiency, I recently upgraded to the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat, and I must say, it has been a game-changer for my home's temperature control. Let me share my personal experience and observations with this remarkable device.
First and foremost, the simplicity of the interface is a standout feature. With just three buttons, adjusting the temperature and selecting the mode couldn't be easier. The intuitive design allows for effortless control: temperature up and down buttons, and a mode button that toggles between heating (fire symbol), cooling (snowflake symbol), and off. What's even better is that the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat doesn't require a common wire on some installations, thanks to its energy-efficient design.
Speaking of energy efficiency, the fact that this thermostat operates on two AAA batteries is remarkable. These batteries can last a year or more, providing long-lasting performance without the hassle of constant replacements. Additionally, the display has a timeout feature that lowers the brightness when not in use, saving power. But don't worry, as soon as you touch any control, the display wakes up and shows bright again.
The modes displayed to the right of the numbers make it easy to identify the current setting at a glance. The fire symbol represents heating, the snowflake denotes cooling, and the off mode turns everything off. You'll also find a Wi-Fi symbol, indicating that the thermostat is successfully connected to your network.
Now, let's talk about the accompanying mobile app, which has truly impressed me. It not only allows you to control the thermostat from anywhere using your phone, but it also provides valuable information. The app displays your location and the outside temperature, enabling you to make more informed decisions when setting the temperature inside your home. What's particularly noteworthy is the near-instant synchronization between the app and the physical thermostat. Adjusting the temperature on your phone reflects the change almost immediately on the device itself, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Furthermore, the app offers convenient features such as adjusting the fan modes between auto, always on, and timed air circulation. This level of customization allows you to tailor your home's airflow to your preferences. Setting up a heating and cooling schedule is a breeze with the app, eliminating the need to constantly monitor and adjust the temperature manually. The scheduling feature allows you to program different settings based on time and day, providing unparalleled convenience and comfort.
To ensure compatibility and a successful installation, it is advisable to check if your HVAC system is compatible with the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat. However, if you encounter any questions or concerns, their tech support line, conveniently listed in the instructions, is readily available to assist you.
Finally, let's talk about the icing on the cake: voice assistant integration. As a first-time smart thermostat user, I was amazed at the compatibility with voice assistants like Alexa. Being able to simply say, "Alexa, set my heat to 68," and having the thermostat respond accordingly is a truly remarkable experience. The ability to control the temperature using voice commands adds a new level of convenience to my daily routine.
In conclusion, the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat has transformed the way I manage my home's temperature. Its user-friendly interface, long-lasting battery life, seamless app integration, and voice assistant compatibility have made it an indispensable part of my household. If you're looking to simplify and optimize your comfort while reducing energy consumption, I highly recommend giving the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat a try. It's an investment that pays off in both convenience and peace of mind.

Fantastic Thermostat

So far, I'm very impressed with this thermostat and knew I would be. This is my second Sensi thermostat. This one will now allow me to have both thermostats in one app.
Set up was a breeze. I have a common C wire, but the instructions state no C wire needed on most units.
You start by downloading the Sensi app to your smartphone and follow the instructions. It will walk you through every aspect of the install, from mounting the base plate, identifying your current wires, Wi-Fi setup etc.
Follow the directions carefully, and don't forget to turn off the power supply to your AC and furnace before starting. I also recommend you follow the note about taking a picture of your current wire configuration as I referenced it during install.
The programming options are fantastic. You can set schedules for COOL, HEAT or AUTO. The Auto feature will allow the thermostat to turn on your heat or A/C depending on the needs. I see this as a great feature for someone with a second home, or if you are away for extended periods of time.
Of course, it is Wi-Fi so you could change the settings remotely if you have Wi-Fi connected in the home the thermostat resides.
Here are some of the features of the Sensi App:
Main screen shows current Temperature, Temp setting, UP and DOWN arrows to adjust temp, Humidity Buttons at bottom - Current setting (heat/Cool/Auto/Off), Fan setting, Schedule button and usage.
It also shows your city, State and current outside temperature and forecasted high and low for the day.
Schedule types:
-Programmed Schedules - provide you endless options that allow you to set the home temperature based on your own needs.
-Geofencing- This will set your thermostat back 3 degrees when you leave a 3 mile radius from your home.
-No Schedule
Fan Mode- here you can turn the fan on manually or leave it in auto mode. You can also tell it to circulate your air anywhere from 10% to 100% of the time.
The app will also show you your usage per day for Cool, Heat and Fan.
This Sensi Thermostat is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit and SmartThings. I use Alexa. It was easy to add to my Alexa app and it's a pretty cool feature. Once installed on your smart phone, you can control your Sensi thermostat with your voice.
The app background is gray by default when neither heating or cooling, but changes colors depending on the status.
AIR ON – Background Blue
HEAT ON – Background Orange
Overall, the app is very simple to use and visually pleasing.
Wall Unit:
Visually this is a good-looking unit as well. I appreciate the Large digital readout of the current temperature, nice for old guys like me. By touching the 3 dots on the right you can cycle the unit off, Heat or Cool, and of course adjust the temperature using the up and down arrows.
Temperature accuracy is good.
Overall, I am very impressed with Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat and the App, I would highly recommend.

Thermostats have been around for decades. Now that we are in the internet stage, smart thermostats are becoming the norm. In truth the main advantage of having a smart thermostat is having controls also in your smart phone. The Emerson is one smart thermostat.
Most home HVAC systems are now much standardized and that they have a c-wire to provide power to the thermostat unit. So first things first, check if your system has a c-wire. If not you may have to purchase a separate c-wire kit and maybe even have a professional to install this thermostat. The box of the Emerson Sensi indicates that most systems may not need a c-wire in order for this to work. Luckily for me, my HVAC system at home has a c-wire which makes things simpler. Also, having a c-wire already means I really cannot validate Emerson’s claim about not having a c-wire for the thermostat to work since I am not an electrician.
Installation of the device is pretty much simple. First remove your old thermostat and remember the wiring. This is most often color coded. But for the novice like me, take a picture. After removing the mount, attach the back mount of the Sensi. The beauty of the Sensi is that it has already a built in level which makes alignment simpler. Also screws are provided in the box.
Attach the batteries and wire the new thermostat. This should be a simple process as the connectors are labelled and the wires are color coded. Then snap in the front panel to the base. After that you are ready for the setup process.
Download the app and register online. Then the app itself will guide you through the setup process. Now you are ready to go. All the standard features are now available in your smart phone. But one added feature is that this device can also be connected to Google, Alexa or Samsung’s Smart Things. But if you are Apple centric, separate device is sold separately. Once that’s done, you are good to go. The whole process including installation of the device on your wall should take around thirty minutes assuming there are no snags. It’s easy peasy. This device is a high recommend!

We’ve been eyeing a smart thermostat for some time now, but the cost has always seemed prohibitive, as has the thought of either an expensive professional installation or a nerve-racking DIY installation of my own. But we rolled the dice on the Sensi Lite given that so many other items in our household are smart-enabled and now part of the Alexa ecosystem of home/remote control capabilities, and I’m thrilled to say that Emerson managed to deliver an incredible amount of capability into a budget-friendly unit that is simple-to-operate while still offering sophisticated HVAC management and control, and it is an absolute BREEZE to install by your lonesome!
I’ll start with the app as that is your entry point to see whether the Sensi is even going to be right for you and your HVAC system before you even open the box. Again, I must give Emerson credit for its Sensi app setup wizard—it really is just about idiot-proof. As long as you can turn off the power to your existing system and can read the labels and colors of the existing wiring to your current thermostat’s mounting block, the app’s easy-to-understand pictures simply and confidently guide you through every step. My total installation time was less than 20 minutes.
Once the old thermostat is off the wall, the app gives you a “Wire Picker” screen; you simply press the dots that correspond to the color/connection of the wires you see in front of you and the app will tell you whether you have a “valid configuration” that supports easy changeover to the Sensi thermostat’s wiring scheme. Then you indicate what kind of heating system you have (electric, gas, boiler/radiant) and affix the provided sticky labels onto each wire based on how they are hooked up to your old thermostat—don’t worry, the app tells you which labels to use with which wires. Once you unhook the wires and remove the old thermostat’s mounting block, the app tells you which newly labeled wires go into which port of the Sensi’s wiring block. Connect the wires, mount the backplate, then stick the Sensi into the mounting bracket and you’re nearly done.
Using your cell phone’s camera, scan the included QR code card which will establish a BT connection between your phone and the Sensi thermostat while it works to configure WiFi access to your home router. The only gotcha at all here is that the Sensi is only 2.4Ghz-capable, so those of you who have nothing but high-speed 5Ghz or even 6Ghz networks and clients will need to roll back to a wireless router that uses its 2.4Ghz radio as well.
That’s it—once you’re online, you can use the Sensi app to start controlling heating or AC, setting up schedules, checking daily and monthly logs of system usage…the flexibility is really quite extensive. But what sold me on this unit was that is has an AUTO mode that lets you set a minimum temp before heat kicks in and a maximum temp for AC cooling. This was especially important to us because our spring and fall days often vary by 20 degrees or more which means we were constantly running to our thermostat to change from heat to AC once the sun started baking our house, but then we’d have to remember to switch back over to heat at night or we’d wake up freezing cold the next morning. This unit does all that for you…AWESOME!
Voice assistant integration is also here—it is such a pleasure to be able to tell Alexa to change the temperature from the comfort of our bed, or even set routines for varying minimum/maximum heating or cooling temps during the day when we’re gone from the house or away on vacation if you don’t want to use the Sensi app to do so as well. And yes, Alexa can even change the operation mode between heat, AC, or AUTO as well.
You want even more? Using the app, you can set a thermostat schedule for “Geofencing” and it will automatically roll back the temperature by 3 degrees when you leave (well, okay, when your phone leaves) a 3-mile radius from your home. This may not work well with multiple people on multiple schedules in the same house, but it’s cool to have the option for those of you who want to improve energy efficiency or cut heating/AC costs without having to worry about setting a specific time on a preset schedule to raise or lower the temperature. The app also offers a helpful “Early Start” option for any schedule so that heating or cooling starts slightly ahead of time so that you reach your desired temperature *by* the scheduled time rather than starting your heating or cooling at that time…nice for making sure the house is comfy by the time you normally come home from work/play rather than having to wait around for things to get cooler or toasty.
The face of the thermostat itself is quite simple with just a minimal LED display that is not blindingly bright in a darkened room or hallway. There is also a touch-sensitive mode button and two arrows for up/down temperature adjustment. If you just want to rock your AC and heat old-school, you can sidle up to the panel and manually adjust it as well, skipping all those fancy features in either the Sensi app or through home automation via digital assistant. Honestly, I’m not sure what more you could really ask for!
If you are already comfortable with app-style interfaces and setup, or Alexa/Google-style automation for other smart home appliances and electronics, you should have NO problems at all with any sort of intimidating or overwhelming setup or usage experience with the Sensi Lite—it is intuitive, simple, and very flexible. The fact that the app literally holds your hand with colorful, accurate and simple graphics and diagrams along the way means that even those of you who might be timid about a DIY install can do so with ease and assurance. The fact that you get so much capability, and a 3-year warranty, for a pretty bargain-basement price is just icing on the cake. Based on our experience installing and using the thermostat, unless you need an absurdly complex home control hub that also plays music, forecasts the weather, or rotates video streams or family photos, I can’t think of a single reason why you wouldn’t be happy with the Sensi Lite. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Budget Smart Thermostat - Great Performance !

First Impressions - An economical smart thermostat that works with or without a C-Wire ! - Upon opening the box
I removed the thermostat and carefully detached it from it's mounting plate. It includes the standard warranty
registration reminder and some instructions. It is nicely packed and includes helpful getting started information.
First use - I set this up on my test bench and powered it up to check that it's functioning correctly prior to
installing it in my garage attic. Yes, I actually plan to use this to control an attic fan system that has a normal
on/off trigger. I plan to set limits and schedules based on a high range of temps ( Start over 90F )
Installation - I added a transformer to supply current full time to the unit - My attic fan systems do not supply
a "C" wire, they only accept triggering to run them. I suspect you could use this unit on the included batteries
however I do not want to worry about having to replace them. On a similar note, I used lithium long life batteries
to hopefully avoid changing them for five years or so.
The app - I installed the sensi app on IOS and waded through the initial setup and test. I had the thermostat setup
within a few minutes and was able to control it easily. I decided to try it out on my android tablet as well - no issues with
that setup either. This device does "call home" and supply running state data back to a web based service to be used
with control and reporting.
Overall - Simple to use, easy to tie into a standard HVAC system or your own custom projects. The application for
setup and control works well and is simple to use. I would very much recommend this if you considering replacing
a non-smart thermostat. We already have for our split zone primary units and the savings can be very significant !
What I love:
It works exactly as expected -
It has onboard backup power as to not loose settings if power is lost !
Room for improvement:
Only appears to supports 2.4GHZ wireless networks.

It can be a little intimidating to install - rewire something but as projects go this was about as easy as it gets. From package open to install and done was about 25 minutes with nothing more than a couple of screwdrivers. A big one and a little one for the wires. The provided App Seni made the whole potentially difficult process a breeze. It even allow the option In-App for you to photo document your current setup. Here's the one spot I found lacking or odd. Every time I did something on the phone, to take documenting photos for example.. the install process cancelled and I had to start over. Fortunately, to get back to where I was is only like 2 seconds of taps or less. The process to determine your existing and new wiring setup was a BREEZE. They really put a lot of thought here. A couple of minutes later and everything was up and running. An old convoluted, crummy backlit, no low battery warning thermostat was replaced with this state of the art stylish one. The app lets you do everything you needed before with your phone without effort. Full control, scheduling for cool and heat, the auto scheduling is perfect. You can even use geofencing with your thermostat so that your heating and air isn't doing more work for absolutely no reason. A real money saver.

I have the older Sensi Thermostat prior to this Lite version. It worked great.
This is a newer model that is smaller and more slick.
I followed the setup instructions and I was all set.
The base of the unit exactly replaced my current thermostat hole pattern, and began the setup process. I was lucky previously had a common wire so I did not have to search for it again like my first smart thermostat installation.
This black version looks really nice and modern.
App was easy to setup with Sensi via Google play store and the app synchronicity both with Google home and Alexa just fine.
The interaction with both Alexa and Google was flawless.
Setup took all but 15 minutes max.
App use was super easy. Easy to navigate. Easy to go between heating and cooling. The only thing with this Lite version is that it does not have exterior weather information on the display and other ways to program the unit on the actual thermostat but it depends on what you want out of your thermostat and cost and looks.
I would recommend this product because of all the pros I listed above.

Nice Entry Level Smart Thermostat - Well Made App

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Emerson Sensi Lite is an entry-level Wi-Fi thermostat that aims to deliver broad system compatibility and easy installation. I am no stranger to Wi-Fi thermostats or their installation, so I was interested in seeing how the Sensi Lite stacked up.
The first thing to look into is system compatibility. Emerson has an online tool to check this out, but basically if you have a normal system – blower furnace with and outdoor condenser unit – you should be fine. You also don’t need to have a C-wire for the Sensi Lite to work for you, but it helps.
I originally had an Ecobee thermostat installed, and I used its PEK to add a C-wire. My system is just shy of 10 years old, so it has the wiring necessary for a C-wire. However, when my system was updated they didn’t mess with the older 4-conductor wire ran in my wall. This is probably a common occurrence in other peoples homes because of the difficulty in replacing those old wires. I wanted to replace the wiring with newer 5-conductor wire, since it was a fairly easy task. However, I installed the thermostat without the new C-wire ran without any issue. I ran it for a few days like that, and then pulled the new wire to add a C-wire to my system. I reinstalled the thermostat and configured with the new wiring layout.
There is one main difference between the 2 install types. If you don’t have a C-wire you just install 2 AAA batteries. That’s really it – the thermostat functions the same. You will have to occasionally replace the batteries, and the battery life will be dependent on how often you access the remote connection. The benefit of installing without a C-wire is for older homes with battery powered thermostats or even the old mercury tube-internal thermostats (what I had growing up). This unit will integrate with these systems far easier than thermostats that require a C-wire or need a C-wire extender kit. If you already have a basic programmable thermostat you should be able to swap this unit in place in minutes.
The overall design Sensi Lite is fairly sleek. The screen display is pretty basic but easy to read from a distance. The size of the unit is a little on the smaller size which is great for fitting into tight spaces, but comes with some drawbacks. There is no trim plate to dress up behind the Sensi. If your old thermostat is larger (like mine was), and if your wall is a little ugly behind your old thermostat (like mine is) then it will be on display until you fix it up. As far as controls on the Sensi its pretty basic. There is an up/down arrow and the center menu button. Tapping the menu button lets you cycle through the some of the settings – set the system mode (auto, cooling, heat, off), units (F or C), etc. Pressing and holding the menu button lets you configure the Wi-Fi setting to either be on or off.
Setting up the Sensi is done through the companion app. It walks you through the whole setup process, has you configure the wiring in your wall, and connects the Sensi to your Wi-Fi. I initially had trouble connecting to my Wi-Fi, so I toggled off my 5GHz bands and got it connected with just the 2.4GHz band enabled. Within the app you have all the options available on the display itself plus quite a bit more. You have access to scheduling routines, fan settings, usage statistics, system notifications, service reminders, and system cycling settings.
Setting up the schedule you get a couple of options – no schedule, geofencing, and programmed. Geofencing sets a 3 mile radius around your home and when you leave the area the system sets your temps up or down (heat or cool) by 3 degrees. I tried this out for a bit, and it worked just fine. I didn’t keep it because most of my time is spent within that radius - even grocery runs and going to work, so the temp setpoint rarely adjusted under this mode. However, I can see this mode being useful if you tend to travel outside of that range and your schedule is difficult to nail down enough for a programmed mode. The Programmed schedule lets you configure your temp setpoints for different times of the day, and select which days they apply to.
I am missing out on a couple of features compared to the Ecobee it replaced. The Sensi doesn’t have a proximity or occupancy sensor to wake up the display as you get close – rather the display is always on. That proximity sensor was also used in the Ecobee to adjust the setpoint on the fly as it would detect me being home outside of my normal schedule. The Sensi is a little more manual in that approach, but not really to its detriment. There is also no vacation mode like on the Ecobee. With the Sensi you just have to change it to “No Schedule” and bump the setpoints to the desired range. You then have to remember to set things back before you make it home, which was something vacation mode took care of. For the most part these are features I would not expect out of a smart thermostat at the Sensi Lite’s price point, so its not a big deal.
Performance wise I have found that the Sensi maintained similar climate control to the Ecobee it swapped out. I can adjust the fan run time to cycle the house air without kicking on the AC condenser (or furnace), which is a more efficient way to keep the house comfortable. The temp readout also seems pretty accurate and I was able to use the exact same setpoints and scheduled times that I had on the Ecobee. It been a pretty seamless transition from the more advanced Ecobee, so I can imagine it would feel like a nice upgrade from a more basic thermostat.
Overall, I found the Sensi Lite to be a nice little thermostat. It does a good job of maintaining the temps in my home – on par with the more advanced Ecobee it replaced. The app integration works really well – I had zero issues or faults with connecting to the Sensi while at home or away. The install process was a breeze. The ability to use batteries if you lack a C-wire means greater compatibility, and many basic thermostats can be easily swapped out without having to touch the wiring inside the furnace blower. I do wish the Sensi came with a trim plate due to its smaller size – it is unlikely to cover up the wall space of the thermostat it will replace.

The Sense Lite is a well built little thermostat which helps I used to replace my older "dumb" thermostat.
The instalation was super easy the Sensi app helps you walk through every step and provides videos for tutorial if you run into any issues. The hardest thing for me to do was locating the A/C switch in the control panel. There is only one issue I ran into while installing the Sensi which was connecting it to the wifi, it seems that Sensi does not like wifi passwords which are long (mine was 9 digits). It took me about 10 to 15 mins to figure this out so please keep that in mind when installing.
The Sense Lite does not require a common wire to use which is great and the touch screen buttons are responsive. I noticed that the Sensi Lite helps my AC turn on much quicker than my older thermostat.
The Application for the Sensi is nice and simple, no bells or whistles just simple "on/off" "cool/heat" commands and screen turns blue when cooling. As for the performance the App performs well and there is about a 3 sec delay from when you input a command in the app and it shows on the Sensi lite.
Overall its a nice thermostat which you can use to set schedules and help reduce cost when your not at home.

My first time owning a Sensi thermostat from Emerson and i like it! I needed a thermostat in the sunroom at work and i am very pleased with how this Sensi lite filed the spot. I think it's priced right and it's got a cool design to it. Sure would be nice to see the weather and all that stuff but that's why this is a lite and costs less.
In the box you find:
*Thermostat *Mounting hardware *Installation guide *Owners manual *Warranty booklet and *(2) AAA batteries.
You will need a cross screw driver tough and that's about it. The back plate that goes on the wall comes with a built-in level so you get a nice and straight mount. I was lucky that i didn't had to drill new wholes my old one shared the same pattern.
The app (i use ios) it's simple and sleek as well. Never gave me trouble and it's been very reliable in the 14 days i've been using it so far.
Once you have the app you add your device and be without a worry it illustrates very well what you should do so you get your wiring straight.
It took me approximate 7 minutes to mount it and set this thing up.

I’ve looked, of and on, for over a year for a smart thermostat that didn’t require a C wire (power). Found this and gave it a try. Home run!!! Wow. Easy to install (step by step online wizard is excellent), and the app is clean and intuitive. My favorite feature is the multiple profles, so I can easily switch between home, travel, out-for-the-day, etc. My only nitpick is that the scheduler prompts with two day groups by default, which most people don’t need, and it make saving the profiles confusing because it throws an error until you delete the second (undefined) group.

The Emerson Wi-Fi Thermostat is a game-changer for home climate control. Its convenience is unmatched—you can adjust the temperature anytime, anywhere using your smartphone or tablet. This remote functionality makes it especially handy when you're away from home or just don't feel like getting up to adjust the thermostat manually.
The user interface is straightforward and intuitive, making it incredibly user-friendly. Whether you're tech-savvy or not, you'll have no trouble navigating the settings or syncing it to your Wi-Fi.
