Bought this in black friday sale for 499. I have a 1600 sqft single floor home. The rooms are carpeted and the living space has rugs. The vacuum did excellent job mapping the house in its first run. It is able to vacuum under beds which is super satisfying. The suction power is good both on tiles and carpet. The app is decent. The self emptying feature is good but its abit loud. The mop attachment is available but the mopping ability isnt the best which is expected at this price point. I wanted a robot vacuum so i could program it to clean the space while I’m away and this works well for my needs.

Very satisfied with how Roomba mapped the house & then vacuumed where it mapped. Used the mop feature for the 1st time today & we did decide to do it twice because the first time it did leave some streaking, but for the most part, quite impressed with how it operates. We feel like we’re The Jetsons now—so we appropriately named her “Rosie” Roomba!!

J5+ Helpful Robot for Daily Clean-up
The iRobot Roomba Combo j5+ is a robot vacuum and mop that is a nice entry into robot vacuum cleaners. This is my first attempt at using a robot vacuum in nearly 6 years as I found they weren't nearly as good as using a regular vacuum. While I liked the time savings, what's the point if your floor cleanliness is mediocre and your robot never makes it back to the base -- well, times have changed and I'm really happy with the j5

This thing is seriously awesome. It comes with a guarantee that I will never run over dog accident or they will replace it. It has a camera, so it is able to navigate around things like cables, pet toys, socks, and dog accidents and then reports back to you so you can tell how to proceed . It is very efficient .

I have had a few Roomba's over the past 20 years, and I find that each model improves upon the prior. The iRobot Roomba J5+ is no exception, with smart mapping, collision avoidance, and now self emptying and mopping capabilities, this vacuum does a good job of taking over the majority of day to day floor care.
In the box is the Roomba, a base with a self emptying canister with bag, spare canister bag, combo container (for mopping), mopping pad, spare filter, spare brush. Setup is quick in that you plug in the base, put the Roomba on the base and then work through the app to complete the full setup. I'm using the app with an Android phone and have no stability or usage issues after a week of testing. The app is relatively intuitive with a main screen that shows the Roomba, as well as any other iRobot products you own. From the app you can see the status of the Roomba, battery level, floor map, empty the bin, set up a "favorite" or new job, set a schedule, view cleaning history, and see any messages or alerts.
This review is based on 2500 sq ft main floor that is 2/3 wood floors, 1/3 tile. I have a handful of low pile rugs spread throughout. I'm also renovating a room, so currently I have a lot of additional obstacles in what would normally be an open floor plan. In addition to the renovation, I also have five indoor cats, providing all kinds of challenges to test the Roomba's features.
For performance, I've found three key features that set the J5+ out from other vacuums. First is the obstacle detection and avoidance are much improved. I have a pile of small and medium empty boxes spread out, the Roomba would quickly move in open space, slow down when the boxes are detected and lightly nudge them prior to moving in a new direction. Older robot vacuums would have plowed through the boxes bowling ball style, however the Roomba nudged the boxes, maybe 1/4" movement at max, and left them in place. This is significant, as they weigh very little, and it gives me confidence that I'm not going to come home to my plants, cat toys, or other items all pushed into a wall. In addition to basic obstacle avoidance, the Roomba now has pet poop avoidance, so no more coming home to smeared poop, or in my case snail trails of cat puke that I've experienced with prior robot vacuums. While I haven't tested this long enough to guarantee success, I've seen two instances where the Roomba was able to successfully clean around cat puke.
The Second notable feature is the mapping, while I haven't been able to fully optimize the mapping feature due to the renovation, I can quickly edit the program to only go in the rooms that need the most cleaning and the Roomba will stick to those areas. No more magnetic tapes or any manual processes to keep Roomba out of an area. An additional nice feature is that you can send the Roomba back to the docking station, empty the bin, and then click on the map and send the Roomba back to where it was previously cleaned.
Lastly is the mopping feature. This isn't going to replace a manual mop, but it will take care of the floors and reduce the frequency that a deep clean is needed. To mop, switch over to the combo container, fill it with water / cleaner for hardwoods, and let it go. The Roomba has a mop pad that will help remove things like muddy footprints or paw prints. I was concerned it would leave the floors too damp, but this is not the case. The tile is wet immediately after a pass is completed, and was dry after the Roomba completed two additional passes in my 20' x 17' sun room. In addition the J5+ will avoid rugs while mopping, giving me peace of mind when I turn it loose with a small container of water on board it will only use its powers for good.
A few other items to consider are the custom floor maps, and the ability to use a voice assistant to engage the J5+ to clean certain areas of the house. For example, when I'm in my office, I can tell the voice assistant to clean the sun room and shortly I'll hear the vacuum start up. Next is that dirt detection is available to view on the map. This helps to understand what areas need more or less attention in the future. From the same screen in the app, you can view what obstacles were encountered, the total square footage cleaned, how many dirt events occurred and the elapsed time (see photos).
Overall I like the upgraded capability of the J5+, it seems to do well picking up dust and dirt, not tracking around pet messes, and the battery lasts long enough to clean at least 750 sq ft on one charge. The only negatives I found were the amount of time to map the house (it may just be my layout with the excessive amounts of obstacles) and the noise. I found the J5+ to be a bit louder than I had expected during cleaning, and the waste bin empty feature was loud enough to interrupt a conversation in the same room, although only lasting a few seconds.

Over the last 15 years, I've owned 4 of these robots, from 3 different manufacturers. This is the first self empty I've owned from IRobot. These robots have gotten progressively better over the years, both in cleaning and adding extra features. I will first say that you really do want the self empty feature. The price has gone down, and for the extra $$ you don't have to deal with emptying and cleaning dust bins; using a bag keeps both you and your home cleaner.
As the owner of 2 Golden Retrievers, that's a challenge for any vacuum product, both robotic and manual. With my previous vacs, I've struggled with hair winding around the rollers; I have to say the J5 is pretty good with regard to that. It's still not perfect though; on the first pass of a room, it will occasionally clump a bit of hair and leave it behind (see photo); I often have to do a second pass to get the room perfect. What has gotten somewhat better is the noise level, I've found the J5 to be the quietest model I've owned. That is, until the unit docks & self empties, which is about the sound level of a standard vacuum cleaner.
What's also gotten better are the app itself, adding additional features such as obstacle avoidance, room dividers, no-go areas and the like. Maybe you've seen the ads on tv about "pet waste" avoidance, I haven't tested that, nor would I like the opportunity to! I'll take them for granted that it works. I've included pics of the mapping function; you can see areas I've marked "no go"; I don't need the J5 clunking around my washer/drier, water heater, boiler; the floor area to clean is minimal in this area, it's far simpler & quicker to have it concentrate on the heavily trafficked areas.
I'm not so much a fan of the mop function for more than one reason. The tank area is small, there's no function on the app to show water level; and honestly, it's not equipped to do a great job. There are dedicated moppers on the market that will do far better. I'm happy enough to let it do it's thing on tiled areas, picking up dust & crumbs.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the overall performance of the J5, as I said, I've owned robots before, and so far, this unit has troubled me far less than others with alert messages that it's stuck, clogged, or otherwise unable to continue. Battery life also appears to be better. However, unless you have a specific need for a mopping function, I might suggest that you purchase one of their vacuum only models.

10+ years ago we got our first Roomba followed by the Scuba (actually still think we have some of the cleaning solution somewhere).
You can quickly see the advancements over the last decade. We have had other robotic vacuums, but glad to be back to the OG.
This unit was super simple to setup. Little details mean a lot, on the charging base there is a simple wrapper for the excess cord. That actually is a big deal. Gets that cord out of the way
The unit then easily sits in its base and time to setup with the app. It supports multiple WiFi networks is great as a I try to put these types of devices on their own IoT WiFi, so glad that it was easily supported
Was setup and ready for the first cleaning and mapping. Very quiet it just went and did its thing. Gentle when it went around, tapping a few things here and there but very deliberate in its manner
Every time so far it has founds its base when done, and empties to the bag which is the main reason we got this unit
Bags in the base with a place to keep the “next one” so that is helpful. Haven’t filled one yet so don’t know how long one bag will last
One disappointment, but not enough for a change in rating is that it doesn’t vacuum and wash at the same time, not a “big” deal. And can understand
Why
Floor washing is something we use in our hardwood and it is great for the casual clean. Won’t completely replace a hand mop, but at least helps reduce the need
I love having this and on schedule keeping our carpet fresh and good to go

The Combo j5+ robot is a very capable and versatile helper. Setup was easy through the app and once you're done, you send the little guy on a scout trip to just map out your floor.
Not only did it easily map my floor completely, but it labelled all the rooms. I did some minor tweaks to the hallway/room boundaries but it was pretty simple. It also differentiated between carpeted sections and floor sections. This makes it easy for marking no mop zones when you're using the mop bin.
the base is bulky but its to house the giant dust bag. After cleaning up and docking, you'll hear the base sucking out the dirt from the robot. its louder than expected but doesn't take long, so its not a big deal. maybe don't run it if you have a baby sleeping and need it quiet.
There's a product health section in the app which is nice because having never used one of these before I don't' know how long it takes to empty the bag or clean the brushes/filters. this gives you a "health bar" to track these maintenance schedules (see picture)
mop feature is pretty sweet, you can add water or a soapy solution and let it fly. something once a week seems ok because it does a good job getting paw prints off the floor, but i can run the vacuum portion multiple times a week. its handy having the ability to pick single rooms so i don't have to make sure to pick things up off the entire floor, just that area

I love this vacuum. This vacuum is amazing because it learns the house, has camera sansor which helps to navigate around the objects and its first one that does not run over small cords like phone chargers. When cleaning large home, vacuum will even return to base, recharge itself and continue cleaning once it's recharged. Same about emptying trash tray, vacuum will return to base and empty itself into base which has trash collecting bag inside of base top storage tray. Device comes with extra spin brush, water container and mopping stick on towel like cleaning attachment. Vacuum will adjust suction power based on the surface it cleaning, such as lower suction power on hardwood floor, laminate and tiles while self adjusting to higher suction power on soft surfaces such as carpets and rungs. I am very happy with this Vacuum, it cleans good and it does not skip spots, quite opposite it even returns multiple times over same spots, especially when mopping the floors. Device can be cleaned itself very easily.
Pros:
Smart, learning your home
Great cleaning power
Does not skip area
Self emptying
Self recharge when needed
Self restoring to cleaning when needed
Cons:
None

This product is very easy to operate and set up. It accurately detects all areas of the house, ensuring that no spot is missed. The mop function is excellent, leaving the floors clean and shiny. It vacuums very well, picking up dirt and pet hair effortlessly. It's perfect if you have pets, as it handles pet hair and messes with ease. Not too bad of a product! Don’t like the rinse cycle where it goes back to its home and does this loud noise to release all of what it cleaned from the house. The bags it uses go pretty quick depending on how many times you have it clean your house. The bags are pretty expensive I’d say. But you might catch it on sale from time to time. Also it will bang some things and the walls, mine has a couple dings and scratches but it is still doing the job. Other than those things I’ve mentioned , I feel it does the job and helps in many ways that keeps my house clean and less dusty. I would definitely recommend taking a look at this product and getting it to assist in keeping your home clean all year round even when you’re not home.

My iRobot's name is Alfred. Alfred is very easy to schedule times for it to either vacuum, mop or both. It is easliy programmable through the App that comes along with it. The parts are easy to take apart and change the mop mechanism from the vacuum component. Directions for use are fairly complete and easy to follow. The self-emptying station and bin is a great feature to have, however, it is always best to manually clean and empty the vacuum component after a couple of uses at a time. Overall, this iRobot does a great job and I now can forego using a back breaking upright vacuum cleaner!!

As this was our family’s first roomba we were a bit skeptical that it would clean ohr complex floor plan as we sometimes have a lot of clutter. After its first cleaning run we were blown away at the difference it made! We have four cats and we specifically got the roomba as a way to combat the hair problem on our carpets and hard floors. It did exactly what we wanted and the app to control the device is so intuitive and made it easy for everyone in the family to use.
