I’ve waited a week to watch tv and listen to music before typing this review. I purchased the Klipsch R-800F, R-40SA, and R-50M from Best Buy. These speakers are absolutely amazing. I already had a nice sub, and was going to get a second one, but i dont need it (this is coming from someone who had two 12s and two 10s in my trunk back in high school/college). No matter where i sit, if i turn it up and play a song with bass, my entire body vibrates. I got them on sale and I’m more impressed than i thought I would be.

Running this pair of RP 4" 100 W Dolby Atmos speakers to get the surround sounds that get absorbed by the towers and center speakers. I have mine atop the towers and bouncing sound off the ceiling! Works great.

I wanted these so I could add to my system. I have heard many different ways on how to use them. I decided on leaving them on top of my towers. They are a great add on, but not sure if I notice a big improvement overall. I will run DIRAC again now that I have them hooked up and see what difference it makes. I do like the fit and finish, glad I got them on sale, they aren’t worth the $500 price tag.

Having wall mounted speakers has always been a project that I had intended on completing. I am in the process of building out a surround sound system and and am using these speakers as my wall mounts. Over all the speakers seem to be exactly what I was looking for. They pump out very good sound, to bring the entire experience to a new level of immersion. Any good surround sound system is created by a good center channel a good supporting speakers to really synch the experience. These speakers are a little on the heavier side for a wall mounted speaker, when you mount be sure you are going directly into a stud otherwise it may not end up well. There are speaker cable adapters included in the box for any in-wall set ups too. From a performance standpoint these speakers are a great retail option to include in your home theater. They fit snuggly up against the wall while creating a tight seal and do not rattle or anything along those lines. All in all I would recommend these as a great option to build out a killer in-home theater set up.

Amazing Height Speakers for Your Home Theater

I recently received the R-40SA Surround Sound Speakers as part of a Reference package from Klipsch which included the Reference Series 600F Floor Standing Speakers. As my first real foray into a dedicated Atmos / DTS-X set-up, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But in my experience, these speakers sound great. I highly recommend them if you are looking to build an Atmos based system or add height speakers to an existing speaker set up. As with the other speakers in the Reference series, the R-40SA speakers look amazing. The black textured wood finish and the removable magnetic grill covers are stylish and impressive. It’s a neat touch to be able to show off what lies behind the grill so easily. And these speakers are meant to be seen and heard. The R-40SA Surround Sound Speakers add height to your surround sound system by projecting sound that is bounced off the ceiling. And, if your receiver is set up properly, the effect is very impressive. My test receiver was the Onkyo - TX – NR6100 7.2 Channel THX Certified Network A/V Receiver. In the settings for the receiver, I was able to set the mounted position and height of the speaker. I mounted the R-40SA directly on top of the R-600F Floor Standing Speakers. The included jumper cables (black and red sheathed speaker cable with banana plugs on both ends) connected the R-40SA speakers to a port near the top of the floor speaker. If you chose to hook this up with other speakers, you would need to run wire from the receiver directly to the binding posts on the back of the speaker. To get the most out of Atmos speakers like the R-40SA, you’ll first need a receiver capable of decoding an Atmos signal and a good source for Atmos content. Some TVs support Atmos playback via the E-ARC HDMI connection. Otherwise, you will need a solid streaming device like a 4K Apple TV or a 4K Blu-Ray Player. Note: If your receiver doesn’t decode Atmos / DTS-X or have connection for height channels, you won’t be able to play back Atmos or DTS-X height content. This was my first experience with dedicated Atmos height speakers. Prior to this, my only real foray was in Atmos height virtualization. My old receiver would attempt to mix height content and simulate the effect of having dedicated height speakers through my front left and right channel. The dedicated R-40SA speakers sound a lot better than the virtual speaker. While watching action movies, there was more depth to the audio presentation. I noticed a difference in the overall presentation when the speakers were on versus having them off. The sound field was richer and the detail in the presentation was greater. Occasionally, the vertical effect would stand out and I would take notice. “Air Force One” sounded amazing. I was surprised while listening to the Atmos mix on the 4K “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) to hear birds and crowd noises coming from above. The effect is impressive and does a great job immersing the listener into the audio environment. Not every movie is mixed for Atmos, but even when the receiver was up mixing a normal 5.1 audio track, these speakers never missed a beat. They complement the other reference speakers perfectly and sound great. These speakers are at their best as height speakers, but I also played them as a stereo system on their own and thought they sounded pretty good. I never felt the audio was distorted or colored. Details were rich and sounded great. I guess it should be obvious, but I think these speakers are perfect. For me, they’re a game changer. I can’t go back to a sound system without height speakers. I think these speakers are amazing. Give them a try, and I think you will agree. 5/5

    Surround Sound Speakers!!!

The Surround speakers by Klipsch add depth to your audio experience whether it be just listening to some of your favorite tunes or enjoying a movie at home with your home theater system. These speakers can be used as standalone surround satellite speakers or they can be paired with the Klipsch floor speakers to for height elevation. Klipsch recommends placing these speakers either directly adjacent or behind the listening position. My position ended up being a little bit behind the listening potion due to the existing wiring but they still sound wonderful. They are angled just right to provide that room filling, surround sound and immersive audio experience. The speakers are lightweight and can be mounted on the wall using some drywall anchors, the speakers also come with a removable magnetic mesh grill that can be easily placed on or removed. I love the design and the appearance of these speakers so I keep them off. If you are in the market for some surround sound speakers, I would recommend that you definitely check these out. You will not be disappointed.

    Effective Sound with Major Flexibility

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

OVERVIEW The Klipsch 40SA Atmos speakers provide great sound with a flexibility that allows you to place this in whatever position fits your space. Whether you're looking to upgrade your existing system to add Atmos or build out an entire new Atmos-enabled surround system, the 40SA Atmos speakers are worthy of consideration for adding height based effects to your theater. DESIGN The design of the 40SA speakers is mostly utilitarian; jet black, wood grained vinyl coating, a magnetically attached front speaker grille with the golden Klipsch logo, and two inset speaker connectors on the back. The speakers are primarily meant to be upward firing from the front position, and as such, they aren't your traditional rectangle box speakers; they're squatted in front to allow for a firing position that reflects off the ceiling and hits the general listening area. While the design is fine, I wish they were a bit wider for two reason. Firstly, I wish they'd have matched the width (and potentially the length) to line up with their R800 floor standing speakers (which I also have) to give them a more cohesive design aesthetic. Secondly, the increased space would afford the ability to include larger drivers (which realistically aren't needed, but it feels like bigger is usually better in any case). Neither reason is a big deal, but I feel like they could've done more with a little more size. SOUND QUALITY The 40SA speakers present a very effective surround sound profile. Currently, I have these set on top of my front speakers in the upward firing orientation. Initially, I had issues because the room that's acting as my theater has a drop ceiling; drop ceiling tiles are very effective at absorbing noise, posing an issue for reflective firing speakers. After replacing the front few panels with a vinyl faced alternative tile, I was in business. The reflective effect was surprisingly more effective than I had anticipated. Given the right ceiling material, these actually sound like you have a speaker mounted in the ceiling. While it's obvious that there's something lost from a frequency response perspective, given the nature of Atmos speakers and what they're projecting, this is an incredibly effective solution to what could be a major issue in having to tear up your ceiling to mount speakers. Generally, I've not tested these with music since I don't have any Atmos music source material, but in movies, these have literally added an additional dimension to my home theater that wasn't there previously. CONCLUSION The 40SA speakers are a very good option for anyone looking to implement a Dolby Atmos enabled sound system. Given the flexibility of being able to either ceiling mount or use as upward firing reflective speakers, they'll likely fit in with any home theater setup out there. Along with that flexibility, they offer great sound quality that means they hold their own regardless of how large your other speakers may be.

The Klipsch Reference 40SA Dolby Atmos speakers not only look nice, but also make for amazing Atmos height speakers. The speakers are made at an angle, this is because they’re not traditional surround sound speakers, they’re made to be used as Atmos height speakers. The angle of the speakers are very important, as it’s able to bounce the sound around to give you that extra feeling of being immersed. The speakers have magnetic grills that can be removed to show off the beautiful copper-colored woofers, and black indented tweeter. On the back of the speaker there are 4 rubber feet that protect the service depending on where you place them (more on that later). The speaker terminals can be used with banana plugs for easy connection, or speaker wire can be tightened in. A bonus to buying Klipsch speakers, is they work in conjunction with each other. Specifically, the Atmos surrounds and the Klipsch 600F tower speakers. With the 600F towers, you have the option to connect the height speakers directly to the towers with the included connectors. Then, at the bottom of the towers there are 4 speaker terminals: one for the tower and the other for the heights. This is ideal for people that have limited space, or if you just want to make setting up your system easier. Personally, I like the idea of connected them to the towers, because it angles them perfectly to give me that extra effect that the height speakers provide. Plus, with the 4 rubber feet, it prevents them from scratching your towers. The sound of the 40SA’s is phenomenal. Coming from a 7.1 surround sound setup, this is my first true Dolby Atmos theater setup. The added sound that the height speakers provide, gives me a new immersive listening experience. It adds a whole new dimension of sound that I never heard before in a movie, and it is awesome. Overall, I am extremely happy with the Klipsch 40SA Dolby Atmos speakers. Not only do they look gorgeous, but they add a whole new dimension to my listening experience. When combined with the Klipsch 600F tower speakers, they can be connected right to the speaker without the need to hanging them on the ceiling. Connecting the 2 also makes the sound effects more instantaneous and harmonious. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great pair of Atmos speakers.

    Dolby Atmos Ready!!

This is my first dip into the Dolby Atmos Home Theater set up, and one of my first time using surround “height” speakers. So, with my recent upgrade with a new Onkyo receiver and Klipsch Reference Floor Standing speakers with height connections, this seemed like a logical upgrade. In the box, you’ll find a pair of Klipsch 40SW surround speakers, two pairs of height speaker connections, and some documentation. Since I was pairing these with Klipsch’s newest 600F floor standing speakers, I opted to use the height connections for an easy setup. The speakers can also be used for surround sound speakers and wall mounted. Installing these were a breeze. First, I had to make sure I was using the height connections to the correct receiver height connectors, configure the surrounds as height speakers up front, and place them on top of the floor standing speakers. Removing the plug from the 600F was easy, and the included speaker cables easily plugged in with banana plugs. The sound you’ll hear from these will likely be minimal during quiet scenes, but will help level up the surround when watching Dolby Atmos content. The speakers already have 4 rubber feet pre-installed, and never once moved while sitting on top of the floor standing speakers. Overall, I’m happy with the setup, the installation was easy when paired with the Reference Series floor standing speakers, and configured with my new Onkyo receiver. If you’re only not using a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver, these will still make excellent wall mountable surround sound speakers.

Great set of atmos enabled speakers. They were easy to set up (specially if you already have a pair of standing speakers from Klipsch, check my pics for the connectors). I just put them on top of my pair of standing Klipsch speakers and they included a set of passthrough banana plugs. The sound quality is amazing and you can tell the difference from either small speakers included on dolby atmos enabled sound bars or small tweeters that people generally use. These are a labeled as "dolby atmos enabled" and you must choose that when setting up your receiver. Then it will know these are supposed to bounce the sound from your ceiling (work better with a flat ceiling) and you will think the sounds are coming from above, amazing! Please remember to set the crossover to Dolby's (and Klipsch also recommends that on the manual that comes with these) to 150hz. That will protect the speakers from damage and also, 150hz will give you the best reflection of sounds from your ceiling. The sound is super clear and loud. A couple of 4k UHD blu rays I recommend to test are Man of steel and Batman V Superman. I have my xbox series X set with the dolby atmos app to and these work amazing with gaming too, you will truly think sound is coming from above. They also give you the option (with a hole in the back) to mount these as front height speakers on your wall, but after some testing, they work best as dolby enabled speakers, reflecting the sound from your flat ceiling. Highly recommend them!!!

    Great Atmos speakers from Klipsch

I love these pair of speakers to complete my 7.1 all Klipsch speaker setup. Sound is on point and surround works perfectly albeit using them as a surround height/ceiling speakers or atmos like me and have them on top my floor towers. In the box you get a pair of the speakers, paperwork and a super useful pair of cables to plug them directly into the tower speakers if compatible. Build quality is 2nd to none as is with all of Klipsch's line up. I originally was going to opt to have them as high wall speakers but decided against it as my ceiling curves a little and is higher than I'd like to try to mount them by myself. Instead they are being used as Atmos Speakers on top of my towers and using my Onkyo receiver, setting it up to the perfect sound was easy. Got them perfectly angled and the sound bounces off the walls to make them sound like surround rear left and right. My towers have 2 pairs for wiring. One for the speaker itself and the other for Height speakers like these. I ran a pair of 14 gauge to the height screws and then used the included banana plugs to plug them in from the top of the tower to the speakers themselves. You can see this in the pic. Again, sound quality is excellent and this is the 1st time I have used Atmos but it really does work and surprised me by how excellent they are. Definitely do recommend for anyone wanting to add on to their sound setup.

The R-40-SA speakers are a nice additions to my speaker setup, I had a soundbar with speakers that fired up to bounce of the roof to provide an immersive experience, I was happy to see that Klipsch had speakers to accommodate this so that I can keep that in my setup. I have these speakers setup with: Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel THX Certified Network A/V Receiver Klipsch Reference Series 600F Floor Standing Speaker (2) Klipsch Reference Series 30C Center-Channel Speaker Klipsch Reference Series 50M Bookshelf Speakers (2) Klipsch Reference Series 101SW – 10’ Subwoofer You can run these speakers straight to your receiver, or plug directly into Klipsch's Floor Standing Speakers. You run the speaker wire from the receiver to the Height binding posts, you then use the provided banana plug wires between the port on the back of the speaker to the R-40-SA speakers. I haven't tried isolating this speaker so I can't really speak of the details. I love music, but not an audiophile where I could give you any specifics to the speakers capabilities. However, I can say that I am looking forward to getting a ton of use out of this speaker, for my space this fits well and does not disappoint regardless of the media I consume!

For the last two weeks I've been test-driving a pair of Klipsch Reference series 40SA Atmos up-firing speakers. These are brand new for 2022 and at the time of this writing there is no information online about them. However, I believe these are a revised version of the 41SA Model with similar specs and a new design for the horn. For my testing I am using these with the Klipsch 2022 Reference speaker series. With that said, These are a well constructed set of speakers that are purpose built to be used with the Klipsch 800F tower speakers. They fit perfectly on top of the 800F towers and even come with a set of short banana jack cables to connect the two. Or they can also be mounted on the wall using the keyhole on the back of the speaker. When they are connected to an Atmos capable receiver with Atmos enabled movies, these little speakers sound good. They bounce certain sounds off of the ceiling to your listening area giving you the illusion of sounds coming from above you. But when used for regular music or non-Atmos content they really don't provide any benefit other than looking cool. Overall, I would recommend these to someone looking for a complete home cinema experience.

Perfectly designed height speakers for Klipsch

This is the second set of Klipsch Reference Series Dolby Atmos surround sound speakers we have invested in. The previous model we still own I had set up in our family room and, after using them for a couple years, wanted to add Atmos speakers to our theatre room where we have a 120” 4K projector set up. This only seemed natural as an audiophile who constantly is looking to upgrade the sound in our house. First off, the new Reference Series 40SA Atmos speakers look and sound very similar to the previous models. This new model was designed for and pairs perfectly with Klipsch’s new 800F dual 8” floor standing speakers as they were designed to go together in harmony. The 40SA speakers are the same length and width as Klipsch’s 800F model so they fit perfectly on top of them and, as expected, they are also the same color and material as the 800F cabinets accented by Klipsch’s well known copper driver and horn tweeter. As an added bonus, the Atmos speakers come with exact length speaker wire that can be connected to the output speaker port located on the backside near the tops of the 800F floor stands. If you intend on going with this set up, you would run your speaker wire from your receiver/amplifier to the bottom designated inputs of the 800Fs. There is hidden internal wiring from that input to the Atmos speaker output where you would plug the 40SA speakers in. This makes the set up and wiring much cleaner instead of running additional wiring to other areas. I do want to say that for those of you who have not used Atmos speakers in your set up, don’t expect much sound from them as they were intended to fill in the audio height gaps. That is the one main complaint I have heard from those that have invested in Atmos. The other issue may be that what you are trying to play on your system might not have been recorded in Dolby Atmos so you would have to look for that from your media. At this price point I really don’t think there is much other competition in the speaker market to consider going with a different brand. Klipsch is one of the most well-known and respected companies in the industry and they can be trusted to always produce a quality product.

I purchased these Klipsch Height Speakers as an open box item that was Geek Squad verified as excellent. They arrived in the condition as promised with everything included in the original box. I bought these along with an Onkyo TX-RZ50 Receiver to upgrade my current system for Dolby Atmos & DTS:X sound. These are not full range speakers nor do they need to be. I set these up on my Main front speakers along with my other Paradigm speakers. I was a little worried when I saw the frequency range in Dirac Live. But I quickly found I had nothing to be concerned about. The range these speakers have worked well in the Atmos processing. After I got the receiver setup using Dirac Live I tested by watching Avatar: The Way of Water in Dolby Atmos. Great picture and excellent sound. When things where flying overhead I really got the sense to sound from above. Now I'm no Audio Engineer or Specialist, just a regular Joe who loves to watch movies with theater like sound. For my ears and price range these worked out great. I am very pleased.
