The Poly Sync 20 is a versatile full duplex speakerphone for meetings that doubles as a battery bank and personal speaker. Simple and streamlined, with capacitive touch buttons and intuitive design, you won't really need instructions on what each thing does (but please still read). Larger than your favorite phablet and as thick as your favorite mechanical keyboard, it easily fits into my laptop bag and goes with me everywhere. The included case is nice and keeps everything together and protected between meetings. It is IP64 dust and water-resistant, so you don't have to be so fragile with it. Take it where you need to go instead of your phone or device. The kit includes a lanyard and USB-A to USB-C adapter, which fits in the neoprene-like canvas hybrid sleeve. The sound clarity is exceptional, but the soundstage feels tiny, in my opinion. It would be nice to hear a room-filling sound, but that is me being a sound snob. The microphone picks up voices up to 7-8ft, so the speaker is designed for small rooms under 13'x13', so keep that in mind. It utilizes Bluetooth 5.1 for excellent stability and sound quality; it will be an instant upgrade in audio quality compared to your cell phone, laptop, or tablet. The app I could find that works on android is the Plantronics Hub app. There is a firmware update needed, so get that done ASAP. The overall speaker volume is too low, under 50%, with the steps in sound increments not noticeable until you reach maybe 75%. The microphones are smart and switch to the closest speaker for the best sound quality. The battery is rated up to 20hrs, which is more than enough to get through a meeting-packed workday. You have extra juice to recharge a phone or Bluetooth earbuds using the USB-A port with the charging cord of your choice. The added functionality of being a battery bank is helpful when your phone is dying, and you need a little extra juice to make it through a call. As a portable personal speaker, it is easier to keep around in my laptop bag since it can serve more than one purpose. I plug it into my laptop, and it works as a teleconference device should. Connect it to Bluetooth on the laptop, and it works - just wireless. The Rocket button is programmed in the Plantronics Hub, but the Microsoft Teams button I could not get to work, whether USB or Bluetooth. That is fine since I already have my meeting on my PC, so I don't have to worry about one touch of Microsoft Teams. It is all about options; the business professional will see the value here. We use Zoom and GoTo Meeting at work, so it isn't a big deal for me. This works for any platform without software. You can add software for a different experience. This speaker is exceptional at voice reproduction and keeping things business-focused. Still, I would say this isn't getting any awards for music playback as it sounds too small and lacks meaningful bass and low-end frequency reproduction. There must be a way to block or disable touch buttons while in a call to avoid accidental touches when moving the speaker. I don't remember how often a button would be accidentally touched while grabbing it. Aside from those recommendations, this is an excellent speakerphone with great voice reproduction. This is a winner in my book if you are in the business of calling or doing lots of speakerphone calls. You'll get value because it is also a battery bank to save you in a pinch with a dead phone. You also get an instant upgrade over any tech built-in to your laptop, phone, or tablet. Add a kickstand, wireless charging capabilities, and a USB-C port for the all-time perfect device.

Good Little Speakerphone, But Don't Expect More

I sometimes work from home and wanted to try a device that would allow me to attend conference calls without wearing my headphones or headset. The Plantronics/Poly Sync 20 seemed like the perfect little device that would let me do that and be portable enough to stuff in my backpack for when I’m on the road and need a speakerphone. I’ll give you my overall thoughts first and then a more broken-down review in case you don’t want to read it all. Overall Impressions: The Sync 20 is a fantastically portable little speakerphone that will allow you to hold your conference calls without having something on your head or in your ear. The microphone is very clear and manages to capture voices distinctly and well while using noise canceling effectively to minimize sounds other than human voices. It has Teams integration which I was not able to test but worked great with my WebEx conference calls. Being able to use the Sync 20 wirelessly and without needing a power source is convenient as is being able to charge your phone with the unit while doing so. The only complaint I have is that the volume output is rather low and a large group of people would be hard-pressed to hear it in a larger room. Playing music on the device was not a horrible experience, but isn’t going to replace a dedicated Bluetooth speaker. If your expectations for this unit are for it to be a portable and well-performing speakerphone, then you won’t be disappointed. Why not just use a regular Bluetooth speaker you ask? Well, the Sync 20 advertised itself as having multiple microphones that would allow for either a single person or group of people to be able to use the speakerphone at the same time, whereas where most other Bluetooth speakers are really more designed for music than much of anything else. I went ahead and connected it via Bluetooth to my iPhone 12 and succeeded in installing the Plantronics Hub from the app store. Shortly after the installation, I was prompted for a firmware update that took about 10 minutes to complete. I had no issues connecting the device to my wife’s Android phone as well. Connecting the device to my MacBook was also seamless, allowing me to just choose it as both the speaker and microphone in the MacOS settings. Whether you’re using this wirelessly paired with your phone or wired up to your laptop as a speakerphone, the Sync 20 does the job quite well. The only downside to the little unit is its volume output. The unit is also advertised as a high-performance audio speaker, but I can assure you that you won’t be DJing any parties with the Sync 20. It just doesn’t get very loud and I can’t see it being used in a large room with multiple people very well, but in a smaller setting or a home office, this unit is more than adequate. Battery life also seems to be very decent as I was able to use the device for the entire day with still a half charge left. Buttons are easily located and allow you to mute yourself very easily in case you’re needing to sneeze or make fun of someone on a call.

    Really Great Device

This Plantronics Sync 20 BT/USB personal speakerphone a fantastic device. First of all, the quality is excellent, and the features and sound quality are just what I needed. This is a portable speaker, portable charger, and portable speaker all in one device. (Up to 20 hrs. of battery life) It has a self-contained USB cord (Nice length I might add), or Bluetooth connection options. It comes with a lanyard a storage case and USB A to USB C adaptor for those with no USB A option. (Like my laptop), unfortunately, there is no onboard storage for this adaptor. Super easy set up. My set up was plug and play for my work computer using the USB, then I also connect my cell phone using the Bluetooth connection to listen to music. It seamlessly switches between the two. The music quality is quite good for the size of the speaker. I am impressed. During a call the sound is great for both me and the caller. Could not ask for better. Top buttons (and comments): -Rocket Button - Touch the Rocket Button is a Play /Pause button by default. This button is programmable if you download Poly App. Options; Redial (Mobile only), VPA (Voice Assistant), Clear Trusted Device List, Status, Hold/Resume call. I left it as default (Play/Resume) and with no music connection it provides status of device with 1 touch. -TEAMS Button - I love the dedicated Teams Purple button. Simply touch this anytime and it pulls open your Microsoft Teams software. So convenient for me as a daily Microsoft Team user. Note, this button only worked with USB connection to my computer. Did not work for USB to my Android, or any Bluetooth connection. -Volume + and – -Mute -Phone – Answer / End calls --Side of unit - you have a Bluetooth pairing button and USB connection. This USB is to Charge your connected devices. The Poly App you can download to your computer offers the following: In-app customization for personal device settings Built-in notices for software availability Stay healthy at your desk with gentle wellness reminders I have used the software to update the device software and change the volume alert from a tone to voice. So when I reach Max or Min volume you get an audible voice indicating this. They state on the website that the mobile app is coming soon, but I noticed my Plantronics Hub App does recognize the device and sees all the device settings. This is truly an All-in-One device for people on the go and a great addition to your home office. This is hands down the best speakerphone style device I have used to date. Highly recommend.

I love this device! It’s compact enough to carry around the office (or travel), and the sound is exactly what you would expect from a company like Plantronics: Amazing! The options to hook up to a laptop or phone is amazing and can easily transfer your home into a little conference room. It also comes with a carrying pouch, which is a very nice touch! To setup, you simply hold down the Bluetooth button and pair your Bluetooth enabled device by selecting Plantronics Sync from the available devices. Software updates can be downloaded from the Plantronics software on their website. The device touts 20 hours of battery life, a cable and area to store the cable built right in, a nice travel case, great microphone, and speaker performance, and it can charge your smart phone! I have used this device on numerous conference calls for work and have been complimented on the microphone clarity more than once. This can easily be used to create a “popup” conference room if more than one person needs to attend a meeting in the same room. The sound that comes out of this compact speaker is nothing short of spectacular. Overall, this device will elevate the game of any professional working at home, or one that travels and needs a conference room like solution wherever they go.

    Slim Portable USB/Bluetooth Smart Speakerphone

Working for a technology company as a software engineering manager and spending most of my time on online Team/Skype meetings, this little device is a life saver for work meetings with great audio without the background noise and echo. Had used different mobile adapter from leading competitor but was looking for one that can be portable that can also use as a Bluetooth speaker to listen music when not working and this one checked all the list and very pleased with the purchase. What is in the box: Travel/Carry case, Speakerphone, User manual, lanyard, USB-A to USB-C adapter and user manual. Poly Speakerphone is a flat rectangular shaped with curved edges, measuring 1.3 in x 3.7in x7.2in. It has compact design that got a wraparound USB-A cable (rolls underneath the device) to plug in to the laptop (plug and play) or for device charging. It connects wirelessly to laptop or smartphone devices via Bluetooth V5.1 or directly with the USB cable. Its slim and portable (weighs 360grams) with its stunning mesh cloth design and is compatible with Windows or Mac OS and has great UI features. On the front it has got touch sensitive controls for call/ answer, Mute, Volume +/-, Programmable function button for Teams only. On the side there are push buttons for power on/off, Bluetooth pairing and a USB port that can be used as power bank to charge mobile phones as required. It has got highly visible status light bar that give visual representation of the status like mute or call active. Call quality on Zoom or online meetings are crystal clear without any echo or background noise. Great battery life of around 20 hours on a single charge when used for meetings. It takes roughly 4 hours to charge fully from zero percent to 100% battery. This device is compatible with most popular voice platforms like zoom, google meet, zoom, skype, google voice, Avaya, cisco and many more. It also supports various Bluetooth profiles like A2DP, HFP, BLE, HFP, AVRCP and has got three microphone steerable array for great pickup range (up to 7 ft). This device reduces echo cancellation and background noise so that the other person on the online meeting is not distracted with background noise when working from home where kids tend to disturb sometimes. Setup connection is simple plug and play. No drivers are required. Tested with music from smartphone and the audio is loud and better that smartphone speakers. Travel case pouch is soft and attractive with its elastic enclosure that lets you carry the device in ease during travel and takes very little space. Overall, very happy with this device and highly recommend for conference calls if you are looking for clear audio communication on your online meetings and for quick all-in-one connectivity.

Very nice professional kit for conference calls

Verdict. The Plantronics Sync 20 mic/speaker system is an excellent piece of professional kit. It is small yet versatile, powerful, and extremely convenient for conference calls from a Bluetooth-capable cell phone or video calls from a laptop. It raises normal amateur conferencing to professional quality audio for conference calling. First Impression. The Plantronics Sync speaker arrived in a very nice carrying case, which can be used to keep the dust off your speaker when not in use, but most importantly, so that you can travel with it with more confidence. The speaker looks very nice. It has prominent volume, mute, and answer/hang-up buttons on the top, and buttons for power and Bluetooth connection on the side. The cable for charging and for corded setup is integrated on the underside of the speaker, and can be unspooled for more range if needed. Also included is an adapter to convert USB-A to USB-C, and a lanyard. By the way, the case actually has a small pocket for the adapter… nice! Setup. The Bluetooth setup with a smart phone was very easy, and as expected: hold the Bluetooth button until the speaker is ready for pairing, then connect to Plantronics Sync from your phone’s Bluetooth menu. The corded connection actually took a little longer to activate. After using the adapter to connect the speaker to a computer with a USB-C connector, I couldn’t get the sound and mic to work. I checked the computer settings and realized that I had to select the Plantronics Sync for sound and for speaker on the computer. Once I did this, I could use the Plantronics Sync for excellent audio during a video conference call. Features. The Plantronics Sync speaker features multiple microphones to isolate the voices you want to hear and minimize ambient noise. Voice clarity on conference calling is excellent. The speaker also features 20 hours of battery life, and has a dedicated charging port to charge a smart phone on the go. The speaker is also dust and water resistant. In addition to being a great conferencing speaker, the Plantronics Sync speaker can also serve as a normal music speaker that performs well. The sound is full and balanced, but it’s worth noting that the speaker doesn’t get very loud for music. I think that’s a good thing though, because I wouldn’t want to compromise the conference quality because I played music too loud and blew out the speakers. Using the speaker. There are things you didn’t know you needed until you try them. We were previously content just using a phone on speaker for conference calls, or using the built-in mic/speakers on a computer. Once I started using the Plantronics Sync 20 mic/speaker system, I realized how much better conference calling could be. The speaker makes it easier to communicate with others, which can make an enormous difference when pitching clients. It’s light to carry, quick to setup, and easy to use. We really love it! Things I love: - Sleek-looking speaker - Easy to use button - Integrated cord with a spooling area under the speaker - Very nice travel case - USB-A to USB-C adapter included - The travel case has a small pocket to store the adapter - Excellent microphone performance, and great speaker sound - Great overall package for high-quality conferencing - It can charge a smart phone! Things I don’t love: - A plug adapter is not included. This is not a significant issue for me, but buyers should be prepared to use a plug adapter they already own, or charge the speaker using a computer. Overall, this is a very compelling mic/speaker package for excellent conferencing in the office and on the go. It offers connection versatility through Bluetooth, USB-A, and USB-C (with the adapter). Performance and call quality is excellent, and far surpasses using a smart phone on speaker, or using the built-in mic and speaker on a computer. This a speaker we will use daily at the office and while traveling for any conference-calling needs.

    Work and Play Smart Speakerphone

TLDR; Bluetooth 5.1, Mic pickup range 7ft. Ideal room setup is 13ftx13ft. Mic response 100Hz-6.7kHz. Output speaker response is 80Hz-20kHz. Bass reflex with dual passive radiators. Battery is 3200mAH. Weight is 12.7oz. Comes with lanyard and carrying case. Talk/play time is quoted at 20 hours with a 4 hour charge time. The Plantronics Poly Sync 20 is a versatile Bluetooth speakerphone that can handle both your work meetings or simple phone calls, and still play your favorite music, all on the go. Because of its multi-microphone array, it's truly a productivity tool first, a media player second. I take conference calls for work while I'm at home and oftentimes I rely on the speakerphone of my cellphone to take these calls. The Poly Sync 20 takes my phone call clarity to a whole new level. What I find most amazing is its ability to pick up my voice from any angle, and at distances that normally would not be picked up by a mobile phone. Moreover, you can be standing or seated anywhere relative to its position and the Poly Sync 20 will pick you up just fine from any angle. I've already taken a couple of Zoom meetings with my wife opposite of me at the table with the Sync 20 centered between us and the folks on the other line were able to hear both of us clearly. Music play is just as wonderful, especially coming from a speaker built for productivity. I immediately thought this little unit would lack some bass, but boy is it there and it sounds pretty dang good! It doesn't have any fun LED lighting or dancing lights for that matter, but it's a cool companion when you need a boost in sound quality, especially from your mobile phone. Connectivity can be done in two ways: (1) Bluetooth or (2) USB connection. Bluetooth is straightforward as we have become accustomed to that mode of connectivity, but USB is a great addition to adding functionality to your PC. When plugged into your PC using the attached USB-A cable (also included is USB-C adapter), the PC immediately recognizes the Poly Sync 20 and provides both its sound and mic functionality. It can recognize when a call is in progress and will change its lightbar color accordingly so you are aware at all times. Versatility doesn't end there; with the available USB-A port, you'll be able to not only listen to your music via Bluetooth, but you'll also be able to charge your phone with its respective charge cable (not included). Think Lightning cables or USB-C cables that you normally use. As I mentioned above, the Poly Sync 20 is a productivity product first, and a media speaker at a very close second. If you don't need to take phone calls or the like, then there are other solutions out there purely for musical enjoyment. For the rest of us, the Poly Sync 20 is for the professional that wants that extra versatility. I recommend it for this reason.

The Plantronics sync 20 BT/USB Personal speakerphone I a compact device that allows quality duplex communication using a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone or other communication device like a tablet or PC. The device has a permanently attached USB A charging cord that tucks neatly under the bottom. A full charge takes about 4hours and will give you up to 20 hours of use. The Sync 20 is certified for most communications apps like Microsoft Teams, Zoom and many others. The speakerphone has touch controls on the front for volume, mute, Bluetooth pairing and a light bar that is green while a call is active or incoming or blue when it is powered on. There is a programable button with a rocket icon that can be programed with Play/pause. Redial, VPA?, Hold/resume call, status check or clear trusted devices. There is also a dedicated Microsoft Teams button. Sound quality is outstanding from both the speakers while listening and from the mic. You can easily walk around a home office space and carry on a normal conversation. Plantronics has an app for Android, IOS, Windows and Mac called the Plantronics Hub this allows you to manage your connection, battery levels, change voice prompt language and update your firmware. Just as an aside you can also use the Sync 20 as a Bluetooth speaker to play music when not using it to make calls. The Sync 20 comes with it's own carrying case, it is a convenient size (1.3 x 3.7 x 7.2 in) to pack in your computer bag or backpack making it a great accessory for someone who travels and needs to set up a remote office on the go. I found it easy to use and will use it daily.

    Beats headphones for call

For the last two+ years many of my meetings continue to be online, or a mix of in person and online. I’ve used a set of Bluetooth headphones for these, but here and there they seem to have issues, or I forget to charge them. The headphones are also made more for a mobile phone, so you need to fiddle around windows to get them to work and still need to find the windows shortcuts or app button to mute/unmute. With the Poly Sync, I plugged it into the PC, and it started to work right away, and Teams noticed it right away. I did get the Poly Lens app, which still needs some work, but it does let you have some basic setup there. Doing calls, the mic works great, and everyone can hear me without an issue. The speaker is also great, and I can hear everyone without issue. I also like the mute button and the volume up and down right there, without needing to go find it somewhere. I also leave it plugged in all day, which unlike my wireless headphones that had to be turned on, means I can quickly pick up when someone starts a call. Additionally, if you have a team with you, everyone can hear and everyone can speak. This could also be a downside if you don’t have a private space for calls. The other thing that doesn’t affect me, is this is specifically for Microsoft Teams, so if you’re on other conference call software it works, but the team button (which brings up teams) wouldn’t show your call software. I have so far only used this on the windows PC. You can connect to Bluetooth with it and use it as part of your phone, but since I do calls on my PC that’s where I keep it. It also acts as a power bank which is a great addition if you travel and don’t want a second piece to add backup power. As of the time of this review the mobile version of the app wasn’t ready but to me I primary plan to use this on my computer. I do highly recommend this for anyone on teams calls constantly with a private space or office. Makes the call much better than just a computer, and easier then constantly connecting headphones.

From the time I opened he package, I was impressed with the look and feel of this portable speaker. I has a solid feel to the construction and very thoughtful placement of the cord with a place to store it. My previous portable speaker worked well until it started overheating - I notice the cord had become frayed from being exposed to too much movement. This Poly should not have that problem. Speakers are all about sound and the sound of this speaker is excellent for its size. The treble is crisp, and voices are clear. The bass is just OK, so I recommend this as a music speaker of last resort. Connectivity was extremely easy. The USB connection was recognized immediately by my PC. .The same goes for the Bluetooth pairing with my cell phone. This speaker comes with some nice accessories like the carrying case and the USB-C to USB-A convertor. It also has an additional USB-A port for charging mobile devices when you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery. The Mute button is right in the middle and the large light turns red when muted. Overall, this is an excellent addition to my portable office. I will have to use it for a while before I can confirm the battery life which is claimed to be 20 hours. If you use Teams, there is an easy connect button. I do not use Teams, so I have not tried it.

Speaker and microphone quality is very good. I paid a premium price for this speaker since it had MS Teams integration. It worked very well for a week!! After that Teams functionality from the speaker stopped working. Contacted HP support and after all the troubleshooting (including firmware update) they recommended to return it!! If you don't care about Teams integration, this is a very good speaker for home office.

Use it with MS Teams when I work from home. Sounds great, and people on the other end say I sound good. Noise cancelling works well, not sure if its the Poly or Teams but I can have the radio playing softly and it can't be heard by other meeting members. Easily paired with my phone, too.

Clear audio, just not loud enough.

The Poly Sync 20 speakerphone is kind of a tossup, and it comes down to your personal preference weather you would like it or not. The design of the speakerphone is different from others I’ve seen before…The bottom looks like it’s made out of a PVC plastic housing, and the top has a cloth speaker fabric with a strip of plastic that houses the touch controls. There is a light bar that separates the cloth from the plastic on the front of the speaker. The touch controls are rather odd with a spaceship button instead of a play/pause symbol, granted this button can be customized to your choosing through the dedicated PLT HUB app. The problem with not having a dedicated play/pause button is when playing music, you can’t use it to skip and rewind tracks. There is also a Microsoft Teams button if you use Teams. The USB-A cable is built-in to the bottom of the speaker, which is used for charging. They include a USB-A to USB-C adapter for most modern devices. Lastly, a nice carrying case that has a small slot for storing the adapter is included. The Speakerphone can also function as a power bank to charge any device with a USB-A cable. It also works as a Bluetooth speaker for listening to shows or music. To get the most out of the speaker, there is a free app called the PLT HUB, this lets you change settings on the speaker such as the function of the spaceship button, toggle HD voice on/off and updates the firmware. This speakerphone is also compatible with Siri and Google assist. As for how well the speakerphone sounds...I tried the speakerphone out in two different ways; the first I used it as a conference speakerphone and then I tried it as a Bluetooth speaker for music. The speakerphone has some decent sound to it. It has good lows and highs, but the problem is it doesn’t get very loud. When using it as a speakerphone for a call, the vol had to be at max just to hear it comfortably, anything lower than ¾ and I couldn’t hear anything. On the other end of the call, the recipient was able to hear me very clearly. When I used this as a Bluetooth speaker for music, I was fairly disappointed with the vol level. While the sound was good vocals sounded clear and bass was deep, the vol level does not get very high. Overall, I think there are many good aspects to it, like the built-in USB charging cable, the carrying case, and HD clear audio. Although there are also a few things I don’t like about it. For instance, the spaceship button (this makes no sense to me), the plastic housing at the bottom I think makes it look kind of cheap, but mostly it’s the volume level the volume doesn’t get nearly loud enough for me. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend this speakerphone.
