The TERK Rechargeable 4-device Backlit Universal Remote is the best universal remote I have ever had, It was very easy to set up for this 'Non-techey' 83 year old man, it was inexpensive, not big & bulky like my other one from the cable company, & rechargeable with an included cord.

I have two of these tv controllers. They work great and are very lite. But the only thing is the controller needs to be plug in a lot to keep it charged up. We plug them in every night when we go to bed to make sure it charges for all day use.

Bought remote to replace a damaged tv remote. Worked great for 3 months, now volume and channel buttons work intermittently. Seems like there is a transmission lag and takes 2-3 seconds between each click to adjust either the volume or channels. I’ve tried resetting remote, tv, connections and still the same. Really disappointed and of course it’s past any return period and product customer support is no where to be found.

If you are looking for a universal rechargeable remote that can easily replace other remotes then look no further! This remote is awesome! Out of the box, the instructions are clear and easy. Plug it in to charge. That’s right, no more looking for some AAA batteries! This is rechargeable! Red light comes on the backside of the remote to let you know it’s charging. Light turns green once it’s completely charged. No guessing! While you’re waiting for that find the codes on the sheet provided for your units. I had a name brand TV & streaming stick to program. First I did the television, then the streaming device. Super easy, worked the first time. I was in need of a new remote for the tv because, kids. Enough said. Having this is awesome. Works easily, switches between devices flawlessly, has a good feel in your hand, the buttons have that nice rubbery feel, and push down smoothly. You know you’re pressing them, but they aren’t hard to press. Lastly, the backlight! This should be something all remotes have! Cool blue color, lets you see the buttons you need to push. I have been using this remote daily for a week, so far the rechargeable battery has been great, no sign of slowing. I would highly recommend this remote, it’s been great & I’m glad to have it.

Not so great in my opinion. This may be an okay remote to use for a tv and then a blue ray or dvd, but it a no-go for my set up. To set this up, you first charge the remote via a USB C cord. A + for that. You then have a couple options to program the remote. Either find the code on the list provided for your device and enter the 5-digit number or you can use one of 2 auto code search (Top Brands or All brands) I tried both, and while the TV and such may turn on and off, I could not get all the buttons to work properly. Also, I had to go to the Terk web site to even find any Audio (Soundbar) codes at all. I tried this on two different TV set ups. Both we Hisense TV’s (different models) and both had different soundbars and then an Amazon Firestick. In both scenarios I was unsuccessful in getting the remote to control all three devices. There was no code for the Firestick so you need your TV to control is utilizing the CEC (remote control pass through). Make sure this is enabled on your TV. Although I got most of the commands to work from the codes I found online, I still could not get the Home or Go back commands to function properly for the firesticks. I worked on this many times for too long. I finally threw in the towel. I am somewhat tech savvy so I cannot imagine someone that is not savvy having much luck or patients getting this to work with the sort of set-up I have. The backlight option is nice to get a view of the buttons at night, but even that I was kind of annoyed with. I prefer it simply lights up when you press a button. I guess the reason behind the independent button is so you don’t drain the battery life if a button gets accidentally pressed for an extended period of time by losing it in between a couch cushion for example. So I understand it, but maybe I am just used to my Dish remote that I just shake to light up. The center button set-up is also all the same height. The only button I can feel without looking was the very center OK button. They need to create a more distinctive tactile feel between the arrows, volume and channel keys. Again, This remote is more or less to be a replacement remote for maybe a TV or blue ray player perhaps, but for multiple devices, I simply do not recommend it. I will try another brand or model.

A must if you have older devices

In today’s world, a TV is no longer enough for your home entertainment needs. But not today. Nowadays, you’d usually find a dvd/blu ray/4K player, a cable box, a streaming device and even a gaming console. As such a universal remote is often very handy so that you’ll only have one device to control everything. The first wave of universal remotes often used IR technology to operate. But HDMI cables through CEC technology, has already began replacing IR based universal remotes. So, the question remains. Is there still a need for an IR base universal remote control unit? Short answer is yes if you have older technology lying around. Here comes the Terk Universal remote control. The Terk Universal Remote 4-device model is what I am going to review here. First, the Terk remote dispenses with the batteries and is charged via a USB cable. For me that is a convenience since you no longer need batteries for the remote to operate. Then again, the batteries may fail over time sooner than a regular remote does. But arguably by that time, your devices would also be obsolete by that time. Being rechargeable, the unit does not have heft anymore. But fortunately, the unit is backlit. There is no need to explain that rc units that come with devices have no backlight. So this is a plus. As mentioned earlier, this is a four device rc unit. the four devices it can manage are TVs, dvd players, cable boxes and streaming devices. I no longer have cable so there is no way I can evaluate this function. Programming the remote is pretty much a straightforward process. One is to select the device and input the device rc code into the rc unit. A list of manufacturers is provided inside the box. A simpler way is to auto scan for the code in order for your device to work. Of course if this doesn’t work, then your option is to input the respective codes. I have tried this on my Hi-sense TV and it immediately worked with my TV. Also, I have an Maganavox 4K Blu Ray player and it also worked. This is great for me since the RC unit of the Magnavox is quite small and the buttons have an unusual layout. The Terk remote control has a pretty much standard button layout and is easy. And lastly, I am having trouble connecting to my Roku Ultra. Perhaps this doesn’t work with CEC controlled devices. I have an older IR based Roku which the Ultra replaced. It may work with that. But overall, this is a very convenient unit for all. And admittedly this device may not be for everyone like in my case my Roku can control my TV and sound bar too. But if you have older or IR based devices, then this universal remote is a must!

This was easy to set up with my very old samsung tv. I was pretty worried about it but it seems that this remote is designed to really work with just about any tv out there. Very pleased. I do with the directional buttons and the volume weren't so flush with each other. I sometimes miss buttons because of it.

I have had a Magnavox Blu-Ray/DVD player sitting around for a while that we like to take with us to hotels and also hook up to a projector to play movies for the family in the backyard. One of the difficulties with it is that the remote has been gone from it for a long time, and its functionality was limited to the buttons on the front. Enter this awesome remote! This remote worked from unpacking to setup with ease! It already had enough charge to get it synchronized up to the Blu-ray player, but it was super easy to charge it up to full with the included USB-C cable. The box for the remote had a list of codes for all major device manufacturers and the different types of devices like Smart TVs, projectors, DVD players, etc. I was able to get the correct code for the Magnavox player on the second try on the list! Here are some tips before you go getting excited trying to program this remote to your devices. First of all, out of the box, this remote comes preprogrammed to operate most Samsung devices, Roku streaming players, and Comcast and cable boxes. The instructions state that you should just press the corresponding device key on the remote and try it first with some common functions to see if it works. Next tip, this remote does support control of CEC-enabled RF devices (like a Firestick), so before you start trying to program the remote to those devices, program to your TV first and then see if you can operate and control the connected devices with the remote. The remote itself is sleek, thin, and much more modern looking than some thick, cumbersome beast of a remote that requires cylinder batteries like AA or AAA. The backlight is excellent and the remote is programmed to turn off after 15 seconds or so to save battery life. Altogether, I highly recommend this remote! It has all the functionality you need without any excess or fluff. Thanks for reading and good luck!

Great product. Works wonderfully with my television and it was seamless to set up. I didn’t even need to charge it upon first use! If you happen to lose your remote while moving, cleaning, or anything else, this product is definitely worth it! It is a little pricey for a universal remote, but the amount of features along with how well it manages to work makes the price understandable.

Great but for one major oversight

I want to start out by saying that I really liked this remote in general. It's easy to set up and use, rechargeable, and the backlight isn't blinding or discomfort causing in dark rooms. It worked with my Roku and blu-ray player immediately and controlled my 16-year old Sony TV very easily, even making available some features I didn't realize existed without the original remote. The only issue with it was a major oversight for one very specific use case. Watching OTA television with an antenna, there are no longer whole number channel designations. There's no channel 4, it's channel 4.1, and there's also channel 4.2 and 4.3. Fox is 25.1, but 25.2 is a reruns channel. This remote, unlike cheaper models from Phillips for example, does not have the "." button. Therefore, in order to channel jump to channel 56.3 for example, you have to type in "56" and be greeted by a 4:3 screen of static, then use the channel up button to go 56.1, 56.2, 56.3. This isn't huge, but it then removes the ability to use the previous channel button. So jumping back and forth between shows which are not directly next to each other is impossible and an annoying process. I ended up returning it.
