I use Canon's Image Garden and Windows scan and fax. When scanning, the printer open and saves the image in Image Garden. From there you can handle it as you would any image or document. In settings, you can tell it where you want the image to go. Image Garden is on the set up disk and on the Canon website. With Windows Scan and Fax, you run the printer from within the program. Google will take you to both programs.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When you installed your printer, an application called IJScan Utility (find it under Canon Utilities in your start menu). This utility works great especially for photos. For documents, it's a bit cumbersome. I use a third party software called VueScan ($39-$89) which is much easier to use and allows many adjustments to your scan. The Canon utility does not. With either app, you have to enter a filename and a directory for the scan to be saved. You also have to set whether you wish a PDF, JPG, TIFF or other type file. The IJScan Utility does double-sided scans easier than VueScan. With VueCan you need to double pass your document. Hope this helps.
