It depends on how long and thick the fibers are. I have a throw rug that it always gets stuck on so I use the “keep out zone” feature to avoid it. My family room carpet is longer fibers, but not quite as thick and it has no problem.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My room a gets tangled in the fringe of my oriental rugs and tears it. I cover the fringe with something heavy or clean the rugs another way
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just got an S series and it definitely has a problem with throw rugs. It always gets stuck on them. Tonight it actually pulled a thread out and started unravelling a rug. I had to work several feet of thread out of the rollers. The rug is destroyed. The problem is that the rollers keep spinning as its mounting the rug. And when it starts to eat it, it doesn't back up. It spins, twisting the rug up underneath it. Thick throw rugs are fine. It's the small thin ones that it eats.

It won't get stuck because of the more powerful motors for both suction and moving around. The drawback are the flimsy brushes it has; the new brushes tend to tear easily when stuck on fringes. I know this because it happened with one of my rugs. It didn't tear the rug, but it did tear the brushes. They're about 40-50 dollars to replace. The best solution is to put the rug away during its vacuuming period.

If the rug is lightweight, not secured to the floor or the fringes are very long and fine, Roomba will navigate around the fringe and may nudge your rug out of its way. If it's problematic, you may want to use a Keep Out Zone for the rug, or simply pick it up when running your robot.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My roomba j8+ just got so tangled in oriental rug fringe that it turned itself off and I had to use a scissors to cut the fringe from the vaccums edge cleaner. The edge cleaner rubber arm now looks weakened I imagine due to the robot's valiant attempt to break free. My plan is to start a new map and eliminate the entryway where this troublesome carpet is located. Maybe I should buy a different carpet and replace this 40 yr old hag. That's actually a great idea!!
