“Is the transfer cable a simple ethernet cable (cat5e or cat6)?”

• Ignore the talk about "crossover" ethernet cables. Those were a thing back in the early and middle days of networking, but lately almost all ethernet connections are auto-mdx which eliminates the need for special cables.

• I transferred by using an external USB drive to capture the PC Mover data (it's an option on the setup page), then moving the USB drive to the new computer.

• No. It is an ethernet "crossover" cable that allows two computers to talk to each other over the ethernet without a switch or router. Normal ethernet cables are made to plug into a switch or router.
