A:AnswerFor the average consumer, nothing. Technically, the Z9D has more than double the FALD zones, around 600 compared to the 250, which will produce much better black levels with deeper and richer blacks. This will allow less blooming while watching HDR content. Additionally, the Z9D gets slightly brighter than the 940E, which makes HDR content pop a bit more. However, the Z9D is about $3,000 more expensive than the 940E, and for 90% of consumers, not worth the extra chunk of change.
A:AnswerThe 940D is the 2016 model which uses the X1 processor chip.
The 940E is the 2017 model which uses the X1 extreme processor (used in the Z9D in 2016), which is a superior processor chip.
I can't remember the exact # but the color clarity level is a higher multiplier on the 940E compared to the 940D.
A:AnswerThis is a fablous tv rehardless of reviews. Most people would never see the motion blur that happens. I can tell you that I personally can only see it when stamdimg right next to it and I have to really concentrate on it and I still hardly see it. I notice very little motion blur but to professional reviewers they are way too critical on specs lile that. No one else in my family sees amy motion blur even after I pointed it out. The higher the res to the better it gets. The tv is phenomenal! Best one on the market today in my opinion.
A:AnswerThe 940E supports HDR10 out of the box. Down the road, Sony has promised an update, releasing around December, which will enable Dolby Vision. I believe HLG will also be supported at a later date, however I have not heard of anything regarding Technicolor.
A:AnswerBetter contrast due to the full array LED backlighting. The black areas are truly black. It also has a faster processor that allows for better upscaling to 4k-like quality. There are other improvements as well, like sound quality, but the processor speed, and contrast were the biggest reasons why we chose the 940e. We're not disappointed despite the higher price
A:AnswerReally comes down to personal taste. Let me try to answer your question like this: If you want Dolby Vision support, the software update (due 01/10/2018 according to AVS Forum) won't come for the 900E as its graphics engine is not the X1 Extreme processor, which is the only one that will support Dolby Vision. I have the 940E and am deeply impressed by its representation of colors (brightness) and blacks. The 940E comes very close to OLED quality. Does this help?
A:AnswerHi RM406, the 940E offers better picture quality compared to the 850E. You may check this link for a comparison between the two TVs: https://www.sony.com/electronics/tv/t/televisions?view=compare Thanks, -Mark
A:AnswerI use the Harmony Elite remote also, it works flawlessly with it. I have both the TV main buttons mapped just the way I like it and the activities work great as well.
A:AnswerWe did not buy an extended warranty. Typically if a TV is going to burn out it will do it in the first 12 months. We still have our other two flat screens, One is 45" 15 years old. The other is 55" 8 years old. Both still work perfectly. Maybe we are just lucky.
A:AnswerYou are concerned with reflections in your old tv. Newer TVs do handle this better than older in some cases, but the term local dimming refers to the backlight LED control dimming dark areas such as the black bars in wide screen to increase contrast and black level performance. I leave my LD setting on high at all times. The 940e is extraordinary in this attribute.
A:AnswerThe X940E is currently on sale online for $2,800 but I think inventory is running low. When the warehouses are out that will be it. Its no longer in production.
A:Answeryes. it is EXACTLY the same. my 940d went defective and sony replaced it with a 940e. it worked on the same mount, just had to move the bracket over.
A:AnswerThey are available nationwide now from various retailers. Paying six grand is not cheap, so if you have not yet, you could open a Bestbuy Credit Card and save 10% on your purchase, saving you about $600.
