The 940D is the 2016 model which uses the X1 processor chip. The 940E is the 2017 model which uses the X1 extreme processor (used in the Z9D in 2016), which is a superior processor chip. I can't remember the exact # but the color clarity level is a higher multiplier on the 940E compared to the 940D.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The major difference is in the library of images the X1 Extreme processor has stored in internal memory. Every iteration of the processor/software upgrades allows Sony to add to and improve the libraries of stored images the processor can pull from. The processor picks up images being projected onto the screen and instantly compares them with millions of stored images. This allows for super-bit mapping and enhanced color rendering for better dynamic contrast. Other differences are in the LCD panel, construction, and styling (prettier back design, improved cable management, etc.).

The FALD on the E has around 250 dimming zones and the D has 92. The E has the Extreme processor like the Z. The D does not. The D has 3D and the E does not. All 4 of the D's HDMI are enhanced for HDR where only 2 of the E's are. Aaron's review is wrong. The D is NOT getting the Dolby Vision Update. Only the 2017's with the X1 Extreme processors are getting the update. The 930E, 940E, and the Z are the ONLY 2017's that will get DV. I know because I am very disappointed that my D is not. Got it 10/2016. I do like the occasional 3d movie on my D that the E dropped in 2017.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 75" 940D ($4000) is the 2016 model and the 75"940E ($6000) is the 2017 model and Sony's 2nd best TV compared to their #1 Z Flagship series.. I have been comparing the 3 models and trying to decide which one to purchase. the 75940D, the 75"900E ($4500) or the 75940E (all 75" TV sets) my opinion is the 900E is a much brighter and a nicer picture compared to the 940D and is only $500 more. the 940E on the other hand has such an amazing picture, you really can see a difference compared to 900E.which is a nice set...Question is, do I want to spend an additional $1500 with the warranty costing $1200?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I read somewhere the 940E has 40% more processing due the X1 chipset (same as Z9D).
