we purchased 4 of the Reference dual 8'' speakers, 2 bookshelf speakers and 1 sub which is on the way. When we unboxed everything we decided to put this in the master bedroom which is pretty much a big square. After hooking the speakers up in the bedroom (small space) we turned the receiver on and played some music on low then to slightly mid volume level . At this point I'm WOWED with mids and highs and this is without the center channel speaker but not a lot of bass so now I'm disappointed and ready to return it. Before unhooking everything I decided to up the bass and tweak some settings on the receiver and put more volume on them and WOW...DEEP whole house shaking bass with crystal clear sound with music and movies. THESE TOWERS WANT POWER AND LOTS OF IT!! This same day I removed everything from the bedroom to my open floor plan living room and here is when it all went downhill with the bass but the mids and highs were still making me happy. You will definitely need to purchase a subwoofer for high levels of bass if you plan to use these towers for big open areas. As of now I'm currently waiting on the Klipsch 12 inch subwoofer to arrive because I would like to keep it set up in my living room. Half off was a good deal as I would have returned everything if I had payed full price. I will update when the subwoofer arrives. Hopefully the subwoofer wows me as well and completes my setup for now until I can purchase the center channel speaker and another subwoofer on sale.
currently using yamaha YHT-4950UBL receiver

I was little surprised when I opened the box regarding their size. Everything always looks smaller at the store. I hooked them up to my audio receiver and was a little disappointed at low volume. Then I turned up the volume and the world opened up in quality and spaciousness! I realized these speakers want power and lots of it. So be prepared to have the volume up to get the best out of them.

Wow... Top of the line at affordable prices. What could be better? This speaker set stands out above the rest. Sleek slim black cabinet that adds class looks to quality sound. I am beyond impressed. Clear precise sound at low volume as well as louder settings. I hear things on CDs that I never knew was there with my previous Bose system. Guests are constantly commenting on how great they look and sound. I once thought this type of quality was only available at high end stores. Klipsch found a way to give the best sound and appearance at a price that does not break the bank. Combine great pricing with a store like BestBuy policy of standing behind what they sell and you have a win win situation. If you want a speaker system that is affordable and something you will be proud to have in your home , then these speakers are for you. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

I bought these Klipsch R-820F speakers to play vinyl records after having to retire my giant Klipschorn speakers because I no longer had corners to place them. These free standing towers fit the bill. At first the towers gave me the impression of hearing two separate sound sources but after listening to them for a couple of weeks I discovered that it was my eyes deceiving me as I was used to the wide footprint of the Klipschorns. By closing my eyes I discovered that the 820s really do offer a broad soundstage. The midrange is crisp and more full than the R-620F. See for yourself by listening to both in the Best Buy store. They gave me more of a sense of orchestra presence than the Polk towers. The R-820Fs deliver generous dispersion whether standing or sitting. You notice coloration differences as you walk across the room, but that's true of live performances too. The ported bass is robust for most instruments, but if you insist on crispness in your classical music string bass, contrabassoon, and organ pedal notes you should add the subwoofer. For home theater, add the subwoofer. For popular music you don't need the subwoofer unless you're in a frat house. My Denon receiver offered line outputs for the subwoofer and let me set the crossover to 80 Hz.

Great upgrade from my old klipsch towers. The 8in drivers make the sound much fuller, giving more punch to bass and clarity with the new cone designs. You don't need a lot of power to run these either, but when you do, that's where it really shines. These towers can handle power without distortion easily. Plus they look great!

I bought these at 50% off and open box, so for that price i couldn't turn it down. Since buying these i decided everything will be klipsch, i like the sound and the look!
A:Passive in this meaning related to a speaker means that you need to have an amplifier or receiver connected as your sound source. It's like the original type stereos of the past. Nowadays they offer powered speakers that have built in amps inside the speakers themselves also on the market. So if you have a conventional system the "passive" speakers are what you would use.
Example: Many sub-woofers are NON passive or called powered subs because they have their own amp/power source built inside.
A:I am using the Denon AVRS750H rated at 110 Watts/channel to power the Klipsch 600 Watt towers. This is similar in power to your Sony. I am also using the Klipsch R-120W powered subwoofer. With the volume control set at 75 (out of 1 to 100) I get as much volume as the neighbors would tolerate. My listening area is 30'x30' and 14 feet high. I'm sure your existing receiver will handle the larger Klipsch towers.
A:You will be fine with 16 gauge wire - take a look at the cord on your girlfriend’s blow dryer, which is 1500-1850 watts continuous. I feel quality is more critical than gauge, so spend a few dollars more for whatever attribute floats your boat - oxygen free, pure copper, longitudinal stranding, special terminals, flux capacitor, etc.
A:It depends on the age of the T-50s. Just off hand I would say yes because of the watt upgrade and the fact that these are made for volume. I would recommend a Klipsch 12 in sub with can be balanced appropriately so the bass is not overbearing.
A:No, it won’t work. I suggest you get amplifier receiver.Your tv should have a Fiber optical that will go in the back of the receiver. These speakers are big. Keep In min, you’ll also need rear speakers to complete a surround sound. The center & subwoofer is an optional but will help. The subwoofer is for the base. You can use your tv as the center channel.
