Q: Can these be used in a shower ceiling?
A: Yes, they are technically rated for bathroom and wet environment. After installing these throughout my house I would recommend if installing in bathroom/shower watch your hole dimensions. I put these in my bathroom and while it may seem crazy I opted to use the hue outdoor strip lightening specifically just for my shower area. Just to give you another idea I included a pic of it. Hope this helps.
Q: Can these replace the retro fits that are installed in cans? Or does it have to be a jbox?
A: These are for new installs ie run new wire cut 6in hole and install. Just put in 6 of them they are easy to install if you are handy and can get wire to them. They are not a replacement for currently installed can lights. Hue makes a retrofit can light replacement as well. They also come with their own junction box.
