After thorough research into buying a new laptop, I finally decided on this one. I had it narrowed down to the 13 inch MacBook Air, 13 inch Macbook pro, Dell XPS 13, and this one. I chose the spectre because of my allegiance to Windows, I got much more powerful internals (and a beautiful screen) for less money, and a couple things turned me off from the XPS such as the awful webcam placement and lack of an HDMI output.
Pros:
The spectre x360 is a beautiful machine. I love this model's QHD display, and especially love that it has the option for use with an active stylus. The build quality is incredible and very comparable to a macbook. The hinges are sturdy and it feels just like what you paid for. I love typing on the keyboard, there is a lot of key travel and the metal keys just feel very high quality. While I was intimidated at first, the excessively large trackpad is actually a nice touch. The palm rejection works well and it gives you a lot of space for gestures. It is also very responsive and smooth and feels almost as good as using a macbook's. The touch screen is fantastic, although I don't seem to use it much. This machine works fantastically with Windows 10 and perhaps I will integrate more touch-screen usage the longer I have it. Best of all with this model is the power under the hood. This thing is a rocket to use. Startup is so quick that it's even difficult to get into the BIOS menu if you need to! It also runs non-demanding games quite well! I can play StarCraft II at 1920x1080 with low to moderate settings with an average of 40fps, never dipping below 25fps! Finally, while it's a little on the heavy side for ultrabooks, it is so thin that I don't even notice. It's extremely portable and never a burden.
Cons:
First of all, the biggest complaint from others seems to be that the f5 backlight LED never turns off. This was annoying until I found that going into the BIOS menu you can turn it off, so not really a con in the end just a minor inconvenience. I really wish the keys were black instead of silver, or at least a darker silver than the rest of the body. In low light when the backlight isn't necessary it can be a little hard to see the keys, although again this is just a minor inconvenience. I also do hate that the up and down directional buttons have been condensed into half-buttons to fit the rectangular keyboard area. I've had one annoying problem with the trackpad, which is that ever since updating to Windows 10, the three-finger flick gesture (one I use very frequently) seems to stop working after waking up the machine from sleep mode. This may get patched soon, but for now it is really annoying me as it only works with first startup. I don't like that the power button is on the side of the machine as I've accidentally hit it a couple of times during use, but I understand the need as it's for use in tablet-mode. Which brings me to my next point, this might be just an issue for me, but I don't understand the point of a 360 degree hinge. This laptop is a very unwieldy tablet unless you lay it on a table, and i rarely use the tent or presentation modes. It's a nice feature to have when using an active stylus on the table in tablet mode, but for typical laptop use, i'd say it's more or less gimicky, but this is likely just because I rarely use the touch screen. The speakers are okay, nothing special. I'd much rather use headphones at all times. When watching HD videos or doing anything demanding, the machine does run a little hot. Not uncomfortable, but just a little too hot. Finally, given that this model is the QHD touch screen model with the i7 processor, the battery life isn't as good as if you were to get the 1920x1080 model with an i5 or i7. It still lasts me at least 5 hours with constant HD video streaming, and upwards of 8 hours with regular browsing, so it isn't always necessary to carry a charger, but still it could be better.
TL;DR:
I love this laptop. I get the feeling I might have liked the macbook pro more if I wanted to grow accustomed to OSX, but as far as windows laptops go this thing is the best. Ultra-portable, ultra-powerful, a true piece of art to behold, and a joy to use. I plan to use this in all of my college classes and will be taking notes with OneNote using the Dell Active Stylus in tablet mode on a table.
