Q: QuestionDoes the unit play 4k mkv files or any mkv files at all off a USB drive?(8 answers)
A: AnswerYes, the UB820 will play 4K HDR MKVs from an external hard drive (It has to be plugged into the rear USB input) but it will not play any of the lossless audio tracks. These include DolbyTrue HD, DTSMA-HD and Dolby Atmos. It will play lossy audio tracks (Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 or DTS 5.1/7.1). The UB820 will also not recognize chapter marks in any MKV files. Despite these "shortcomings", as a pure disc player, the 820 now stands at the top of the mountain. I have a still brilliant Oppo-203 and from a pure video standpoint, the 820 now edges it out.Answered by Lewie70
- A: AnswerYes. It will auto play a DV encoded disc in DV but only if you have DV turned ON in the player settings. If DV is set to OFF, it will play the disc in HDR.

- A: AnswerI got this player a few weeks ago when I got a new LG C8 65" OLED tv. I love it. Its quiet, its fast, it works great. I'm not a product manager nor do I work for panasonic or LG. Nor anything in the industry.

- A: AnswerThe 900 is an older model that has superior build quality. The upcoming (sometime in August) 820 has the newest picture processing and adds HDR+ (as well as Dolby Vision via a later date firmware update). In my opinion the 820 is a better bet. If you are someone that has a dedicated amp/pre-amp, high end speakers and do critical listening to music then perhaps the 900 (or better yet the upcoming 9000 may better suit you but if HDR+ takes off you would behind with the 900 and the 9000 has not even been announced for a US release yet).

- A: AnswerThe Dolby update was just released. And it supports Atmos out the box.

Q: QuestionIs this player region free?(6 answers)
A: AnswerNo it is Region A for BD and Region 1 for DVD.Answered by NHHomeTheatre
- A: AnswerYou'll have to adjust the settings on the TV yourself. I can definitely recommend watching a setup video about the Pansasonic UB820 for a quick setup there is one out there and for your TV (I have the same one) go to rtings and they have specifics for how to properly adjust and calibrate your TV. As for HDR and Dolby Vision rtings recommends using I believe Technicolor expert for HDR, and Cinema Home? I can't remember off the top of my head for DV. Those settings are automatic anytime an HDR output is displayed and no need to tweak anything.

I am not a Technical Expert. My set up Sony 65A80CJ Onkyo RZ-50 plus Klipch Dolby Atmos Speakers 5.1.2 Panasonic UB820-K Xbox Series X HDMI 2.1 Cables Using the dedicated dual HDMI outputs of the 4k player. 1 for the video straight to the tv and 1 straight to the Onkyo RZ-50 for audio. 4k disc picture looks Amazing. Movies Played or have Queued to watch so far SEE photo Below. I do have a XBOX Series X But I really do think the picture is much better on a dedicated 4k player, plus the Xbox does not play movies in Dolby Vision. Value rating is subjective. My 3 star Is someone else 4 or 5 If you have a Higher end 4k tv with IMAX enchaned and Dolby Vision and like watching 4k movies on Physical Media at their best, This player is Recommended. If your tv I was a little hesitant in the purchase 500.00 is alot when you already have a 4k Player XBOX. I am not disappointed.

The last 4K player you'll need for a long time!
Had the Sony UBP-X800M2 for a while as my first 4k Player. I decided to upgrade to the Panasonic because I was annoyed at having to manually switch dolby vision on and off depending on thr movie I'm watching. The Panasonic has proven to be as good as everyone says it is. The hype is well deserved. When it first begins to read a disc, it gets somewhat loud. But that doesn't last for long. About one minute tops, then its whisper quiet. It's a great 4k player if you can swing it!

Seriously good!
I love this player. I switched from Sony x800m2 due to performance issues and lack of automatic dolby vision detection. This player plays disc flawlessly and the picture quality is on point. This is definitely an upgrade, although it is not perfect. The only minor issues are cheap plastic build, weak remote, and it's kinda slow going chapter to chapter on UHD movies. Otherwise I highly recommend.
