For a wide-angle lens that is compatible with the Nikon D5000 DX-format DSLR camera try the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Wide-Angle Lens. This lightweight lens is super fast and offers a 20mm, 94° angle of view (30mm, 70° equivalent on DX-format cameras).

You may want to try looking into the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G LENS or the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED LENS to round out your photography kit instead.
