Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello. I have the SkyLab GoPro gimbal and have been using it for about a month. Yes, on the Hero4 (Sliver and Black), the mount is such that the USB port, HDMI port, and the micro SD card slot are accessible when the camera is mounted. So you can charge the camera while mounted. You can also connect the camera via the USB to your computer while mounted to copy the data. There is a USB port on the Gimbal itself, but I believe that is ONLY for updating the firmware. I removed the batteries and connected plugged in the USB cable to a power source and the device did NOT turn-on. So, I don't think you can power the gimbal from and external battery. You cannot recharge the gimbal batteries while installed in the device. It comes with an external charger and 4 total batteries. They claim the batteries for the gimbal last 2 hours. My use of the gimbal is for short periods of time and so far I have been happy with the battery life. The batteries do look unusual to me: ICR 18350 900mAh 3.7V (3.33Wh) is what is printed on the batteries. Hope this helps.
