Hello Best Buy customer Vick! Thank you for taking the time to ask this question as others may be like you--looking for a good 40" TV with a built in DVD player. My goal in answering your question is to make "options" available that one could read about--rather than to provide "specific" brand names and model numbers of TV/DVD combos. I conducted a GOOGLE search and I entered two (2) search terms separately => 1.) 40" TV-DVD combinations and 2.) 40" TV-DVD combinations best sellers. I believe that using these search terms will provide some answers for you as a good amount of entries populated. Please "consider" connecting a "laptop" to this TV with an HDMI cable. After you properly adjust the settings on the laptop and turn the "overscan" setting to "OFF" on this Insignia 40" TV model number NS-40D420NA18 so that the desktop saver screen icons on the bottom and left edges fit in, you would be surprised at how many viewing options you will have "added" to your TV viewing experiences--as it has done for me. I cannot nor should I tell anyone which choices to make or even consider; however, this TV has a lot to offer--in terms of being versatile with all the extra connections ports, functionality, etc. Please consider (i.e., in an effort to give yourself more flexibility) "connecting" a DVD player to this or another "non" TV/DVD combo TV. For best results, try to find a TV and DVD player that has HDMI ports--like this TV does. If you go on the website Insigniaproducts.com and enter the model number for this TV set (i.e., NS-40D420NA18) and then click on "supports & downloads" and then select the language for the user manual of your choice, you will find that on page 22 of that Online user manual instructions regarding how to connect a DVD player to this TV. I have provided a photo of "part" of that Online manual page for your review below. There are some really great quality DVD players out there at a very fair price--with Blue Ray also! It's just a thought! Happy viewing (DVD disk, etc!) Best Buy customer Vick!
