“This Acer C720 model Auto Update Expiration was June 2019 as stated on the google support page. How can it continue to get security updates. Maybe that means it just won't get the Chrome OS updates, but when it's this old, I still wonder.”

The C720 Chromebook is no longer getting Google updates for security, etc due to the age of this model. You can still use the device but you won't be getting updates.
