There is HDMI input and VGA input. I use the HDMI input. I haven't tried using it with a Cable box with the HDMI -- I think it would work -- but the monitor does not have built-in speakers. However, there is an audio port (standard computer speaker plug) in the back of the monitor so I think in theory, your HDMI cable from your cable box would carry the audio from your cable box to the monitor, and if you plug speakers into the monitor, then I guess the sound should come out. But I have never tried that.

But it does have a audio output jack (same size as for your earbuds) in the back that you can hook a computer speaker system up to like I have.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The HDMI port is an Input. Got my graphics card hooked up to it with the included HDMI cable that came with it. It has speakers so it should do the sound as well, but I can't be certain. My sound goes through my 2.1 speakers attached to my PC.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The hdmi is accepting data into the monitor from your computer, much like a TV does from a DVD player for example. So short answer is yes, depending on your other equipment, it does not have a built in tuner like a TV would.
