Yes, you plug in directly and there is no need for batteries.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The controller is a plug in controller. I was looking for a wired controller myself. AI wanted a controller with the wiring completely and permanently attached to the controller. During my gameplay I have found that controllers that just plug into the back of the controller with a standard USB to Micro USB end up becoming damaged. The damage is to either the controller port or the micro end of the USB wire caused by normal handling of the controller and stress on the wire hanging off of the back of the controller. It turns out that the wire merely plugs into the back of the controller like all the other wireless that have the option of using a wired setup. The upside is that this controller does have a deep socket that the whole wire end fits into. Unfortunately I still have the same problem where the controller looses connection do to the controller port or the end of the cable wearing out and have to frequently unplug it then plug it back in even during gameplay.
