It depends on what you want to achieve with the Echo. If you want it to have the ability to control lights, etc. then it is.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. The built-in hub in the Echo Plus is NOT necessary. If you already have Phillps Hue lights, the Hue Bridge is all you need to control your lights with Echo/Echo Dot/Echo Show. And neither the WeMo Switch, nor the TP-Link Switch require a hub at all. So, no you don’t need an Echo Plus. An Echo or a Dot will suffice to control lights, smart switches. I have more than a dozen Hue lights, a WEMo Switch and a TP-Link Switch and they all work fine with my Echos and Echo Dots.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, the only time you need the plus is if you don't have a smart home hub to control your devices or if the hubless device is controllable with Alexa. You can download the Amazon Alexa app to see if your device or hub is compatible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only if you need it. It provides more advanced controls for home automation. However, most home automation devices will work with the Echo without the hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only if you buy items like the Phillips bulbs that need a hub to communicate together. If not you do not need it for the echo to work.
