I say the Alexa smart plugs because they pair instantly to your Alexa system and connect themselves accordingly. Now once it comes to the music side I have 5 of these and they are great you can connect them and they all sync and play your music in different rooms of the house. And speed should work but the more speed you have the faster they work.

Each brand of smart plug should say on the box whether it is compatible or not. Once you have a smart plug, you can then control the power to anything plugged into that smart plug by voice using your Echo. For example, if you plug a lamp into the smart plug, you could say "Alexa, turn on the lamp" and the smart plug will switch on the power. You can also plug in things like fans, crock pots, and more. The plug only controls the power running to the item plugged into it--it can't adjust anything with the item once it is on. For example, if you have a fan plugged into it and want to adjust the fan settings, you would need to adjust it on the fan--the smart plug cannot do that for you. I hope that helps clear that up for you. As far as listening to music, you can easily do that through your Echo. Just say, "Alexa, play 80s music" and she will start playing. I hope all of this information is helpful. Have a great day!
