This is NOT normal. Cord may be lose. If not, it needs to be rcchanged as it has a lose internal connection.

In the Alexa app you can verify your device has up to date software or ask Alexa to "check for software updates" and she can help. Alexa responds to commands, but is not continuously listening to you so she is waiting to hear the "wake word" (Alexa) to assist you- that is why your Echo dot is not always illuminated with the blue ring around the bottom!
