Hello jm, Yes, the Fire HD 8 Tablet can do all of these things. First of all, in order to get Text to Speech on books in the Kindle App, I have attached the steps below: While reading, tap the center of the screen, and then tap the menu icon Aa in the upper right corner. Tap More, and then tap the switch next to Text-to-Speech to turn it on. In your Kindle book, tap the screen to show the progress bar, and then tap the Play button next to the progress bar to hear the text read aloud. To increase or decrease the reading speed of the Text-to-Speech voice, tap the Narration Speed icon. You can listen to the Text-to-Speech voice through the external speakers on your device or through your earphones plugged into the headphone jack. In order to Display White Text on a Black Background, while in the document you are viewing, you can tap the middle of the page and the options toolbar will appear. Then, You can click on the "Text" Button which will give you the options to change the size, color and font of text. This will allow you to change to a white text on a black background. The Fire HD 8 Tablet has the capability to rotate the screen as well. If you would like to Lock or Unlock screen rotation you can Swipe down from the top of the screen. You will see an Image stating if the tablet is in Portrait or Landscape mode. When you hold down on this button, A menu will come up which will allow you to turn on or turn off the screen rotation. I hope this helps!
