It does not! I have had it on (& ready to use) on all of my previous versions of FIRE since they first came out. This one does not have it and they are really pushing that paid app for reading out loud. It is not on here. I have to find another use for my fire or return it. Frustrating!

From Amazon's web site: "Text-to-Speech is an experimental feature that allows you to listen to Kindle books on your device. If Text-to-Speech is enabled for your book, your device will read the text in the book to you. Text-to-Speech is not available for all titles in the Kindle Store. If Text-to-Speech is available for your Kindle book, you'll see "Text-to-Speech: Enabled" on the product detail page in the Kindle Store. Text-to-Speech is supported on: Kindle Touch (4th Generation) Kindle Keyboard (3rd Generation) Kindle (2nd Generation) Kindle DX (2nd Generation) Fire (7th Generation) Fire HD 8 (7th Generation) Fire HD 10 (7th Generation) Fire HD (6th Generation) Fire HD (5th Generation) Fire (5th Generation) Fire HDX (4th Generation) Fire HD (4th Generation) Kindle Fire HDX (3rd Generation) Kindle Fire HD (3rd Generation) Kindle Fire HD (2nd Generation) Kindle Fire (2nd Generation) Kindle for PC Kindle for Mac (OSX 10.10 or above)"
