You can give or restrict access to various apps via the Parent's Dashboard, and there is even a specialized Kids Web Browser specifically for searching online. From Amazon's Kids Web Browser FAQ: "The Amazon Kids web browser is a browser built from the ground up to give kids a personalized and age-appropriate web experience. The web browser offers two browsing options. Parents can choose either the "Hand-Selected Websites & Videos" option, which limits access to only permitted websites and web videos or the "Filtered Websites & Videos" option which provides a more open but filtered experience. With both options, parents can see what content their child is accessing online through the browsing history on Parent Dashboard." The Fire HD 8 Kids doesn't have an option for a cellular connection though, so if you want to be able to search on the go you'll need to connect it to a wireless hotspot.
