What I've noticed is, after a full reset sometimes it takes a few minutes or hours to get the sound back. As for your static it could be: 1 your media player "old" a/o with a corrupted update. 2 your HDMI input at your tv. 3 after an update your tv not been compatible with such. Perhaps switching your inputs would give you better results.
