While most popular apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Discovery +, etc.) are available for most streaming devices (Fire Stick, Roku, Apple, Chromecast), the Amazon Fire Stick uses an Amazon modified Android operating system. This means that many of the Android apps available for Android phones & tablets are compatible with the Fire Stick, but not the other devices. The Amazon app store has a large number of Amazon approved Android apps that can be directly downloaded & installed on the Fire Stick. In addition, it's relatively easy to "Side Load" many other Android apps not found in the Amazon app store. There is a wide selection of apps available to download & install this way, including apps that let you watch TV shows and movies without charge, as well as live TV (IPTV). The ability to install these other apps is what makes the Fire Stick such a versatile streaming device.
