Hello, Yes, you can get the apps. Some apps have a monthly fee, some are free. If you are looking for live content, you will have to do something like Hulu, or Sling to get live local content, but the apps are available on the Fire TV Stick. The point of all streaming media players is to be able to only pay for the content you want, so if its just live local channels such as those, a great option would be Hulu or Sling.
