• No you don't have to have Alexa, you will just use the microphone feature on the firestick remote.

• I'm not sure if I understand your question. The Fire TV Stick connects to your television. The remote has a button you push to talk to Alexa to find apps or programs to watch. You can also navigate through the apps and various screens using the scroll wheel on the remote. You do not have to talk to Alexa but sometimes it does make it easier.
