• You do not need to use Alexa with the included remote. The original first generation has a remote without Alexa that prob would work with the newer units

• It comes with a remote but you don't have to use the Alexa feature if you don't want to.

• No but why would you want to use another controller? It works great and it doesn't use ir so you don't even have to point it to the device.
