I asked myself the same question. This is more comparable with Google Max then google mini or google home. This video explains well all of the details and comparisons with Amazon Echo devices and Google Home devices - https://youtu.be/qkS6MnuvbCc Homepod is like Sonos+google mini or is a none brand description, a Wifi Speaker + Smart Speaker. Amazon Echo and Google Home/Mini are Smart speakers with the ability to play sound, not good quality sound.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Like others have said, it depends. First, Siri isn't Alexa or Google Assistant, and this speaker isn't yet a home automation hub. Apple may close the gap over time, but Siri's smarts do lag in comparison today. However, the Homepod is a speaker designed to play music and output from an Apple TV with very good quality. The Echo Dot and Google Mini are not serious music reproduction devices like the Homepod. I have listened carefully to the Homepod, Echo, Google Home and Max, and Sonos One. The Homepod is clearly the winner in sound quality without any doubt. If you want a speaker for quality sound reproduction and you are already an Apple Music subscriber it is a no brainer to pick the Homepod. If you are an Apple music subscriber and like Alexa for voice control, get the Homepod for music and an Echo dot or Google Mini for everything else. If you don't care about sound reproduction, you have a tin ear, or can't afford the Homepod, then by all means, get the Echo \ Echo Dot or Google Home \ Mini. The Sonos offer of two Ones for the price of a Homepod is interesting, but the reason you'd buy Sonos is for sound quality. While Sonos does sound better than Echo or Google Home, it isn't in Homepod's class. If you don't want to subscribe to Apple Music though (or you really hate Siri), the Sonos One offer is the next best option to the Homepod One last caveat. Google and Amazon won't encrypt your data, will mine the data used with Home and Echo products, will use it to 'suggest' and sell you other products, and will probably sell your data. Apple encrypts the data from the Homepod to Apple's servers, and doesn't save the data once it is finished with it. It's worth considering this factor in your home automation decisions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Its better than the Mini, but it is no where near worth the price difference between the regular google home or echo. It will only work with Apple Music, where as the others will with spotify, Pandora, etc...They talk at length about the subwoofers and all the technical specs, but don't tell us the size of these woofers. Oh and if you wanna link more than one...there is no "mini" option like the others...you just have to buy another speaker. save your money. I use apple products all the way for the most part, but this is a waste of money. Also...compare siri as your assistant to Google assistant and Siri is seriously lacking.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This depends.. If your currently running iPhone, Apple TV, iPad and MacBook and you like all your stuff sync'd across the Apple ecosystem then I suggest it.. Also if your running HomeKit through Apple OS then it's a plus... But if your just looking for a nice speaker or good/cheap home assistant go with Bose, Google Home or Amazon Echo/Alexa.. The home assistant products are still in their infancy and have a lot of improvements needed so I don't know if $349 is worth it. But I have pre-ordered a home-pod and look forward to hearing the sounds it produces.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Google smart home devises are better you will get more clear answers and flexability.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Any answer would be subjective... and would have to start with, are you or will you be part of the Apple Music world? If yes, then maybe. If no, then definitely not. The HomePod is apples ‘gift’ to Apple Music subscribers. Only. With an IOS device. All others need not apply. Ok, but if that doesn’t bother you..., to me it’s worth it. Works great. Very smooth sound. If you prefer punchier boom, then you might prefer the google home max. Maybe. Oh wait you said the mini lol. I was commenting on the max. The mini doesn’t come close sound wise. Not comparable. Why not ask how the max compares to the mini? They don’t. But would be closer tech wise.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Google Home mini (respectfully) is a lot less speaker than the HomePod. Knowing people that have the full-sized Google Home and having heard it, I can honestly say that the HomePod sounds a lot fuller, louder and with more bass.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's definitely better than the Home mini, just due to sheer size. The question of whether or not it's worth it depends on whether you are in the Apple ecosystem or not. If you use Android and Google products, I would recommend Google Home Max, but if you use Apple, go for the HomePod!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. Cost twice as much as google or Amazon. If your going to use it for music just buy a stereo receiver and a couple of speakers.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is definitely way better than the Google Home Mini, it's actually better than Google Max which goes for $399, $50 more than Apple's HomePod in terms of sound quality. As for it being worth it if you fall into the 3 categories then yes it definitely is. The HomePod as early reviews have mentioned sounds exceptionally great but it has nowhere near the skill set (which is the number/variety of things you can ask) of Amazon's Alexa, nor Google's Assistant. 1. However if you can deal with Siri on your Apple products then you'll be fine with her on the HomePod and this is something that will get better over time through software updates by making Siri smarter and giving her more skills (hopefully). 2. If you are someone who loves Apple Products and love sound quality matters to you along with some smart features on the side then the HomePod is definitely for you. However if you do not have any Apple products and this is your first one (the HomePod) then avoid this because you need to have an Apple Product already to get the HomePod to work!! 3. if you are a Apple Music subscriber then I would recommend the HomePod because they fine-tuned Siri to answer all your music questions and it will play any song you ask Siri from their Apple Music catalog. You can still use other music services like Spotify, Pandora etc. by using your iPhone to Airplay the music to the HomePod but when you ask Siri to play a song and your not an Apple Music subscriber then it will not work unless you bought the song from iTunes.
I would recommend:
