What do I need cellular for? null

for connection to the internet where there isn't wifi available.

If you want it to work like your cell phone with service and the ability to have internet service anywhere.

For use without Wi-Fi, like in your car…like a cell phone.

Using cellular service you are able to access the internet without wi-fi. It is however not a cell phone which you can as a phone. But you can use other apps like Messenger to call someone who has the same app but it's going to use your data plan.

Can this use 5g cellular service?

Cellular is separate from wi-fi signal. Cellular is akin to using a cell service such as AT&T, TMobile, Verizon and other carriers that uses the SIM system. It's independent from wi-fi and can access the net where there's cellular service. There's additional charges from your carrier to use it.
