"Price with 2 year contract" means the price you are being presented is only extended to you IF you sign a 2-year contract with the applicable carrier. The reason for this is to defray the cost of the phone over a period of time. Ex: If your phone is $500 new, you can pay $500 and not have a contact. Most people don't have $500 laying around for a new phone so they opt for a contract (e.g. 2 years = 24 months). $500/24 = $20.83/month. This means each month you get your bill the price includes a $20.83 markup to recoup the cost of the phone. After 2 years, you will have paid for the phone in full. If you terminate the contract prematurely, the provider will assess you an early termination fee to recoup the unpaid balance on your phone.
