Because it is not the exact same SKU as what Apple sells. If you buy it outright from Best Buy, it is a Universal Carrier Device, not to be confused with an Unlocked model. This is NOT the unlocked model: it WILL lock to the first SIM card you insert into the phone. As such, they are NOT the same SKU. Notice that if you FINANCE the phone on your plan, you don’t pay the $100 more: if you do the math, and multiply the monthly payments for the phone over the period that the phone is financed, its the same price as if you were to buy it from Apple. Additionally, you can choose to pay off the phone early, or even put the vast majority of the cost of the phone down initially as a VOLUNTARY down payment, and then pay off the remaining $25 or so on the phone with your carrier: all of those options result in you paying the exact same price for the phone as listed on Apple’s website.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I’m speculating a little: The Best Buy retail price is for the phone without a carrier. With a carrier at Best Buy the price is $100 less for AT&T. When I go through the apple site they are also selling the phone with a carrier. So at least for AT&T the prices are within a few cents between apple and Best Buy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.BBuy has always done this. Most stores will price match the apples website.
