Not sure how BestBuy does it, but I moved from an iMac to the Mac mini. I used an external USB harddrive to do a backup using the Time Machine on the iMac. When I got the mini, I connected the USB drive and told the mini to perform the transfer from the Time Machine backup. The OS did all the work.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Best way is to have an external drive and back it up using Apple Time Machine. Connecting with migration assistant peer to peer should work but using an external disk drive in my opinion is the preferred method. I did the exact same upgrade to the new Mac mini and it went off without a hitch.
