Absolutely it is! Apple is using a different supplier for the 256GB SSD and that drive is much slower so it drags down overall system performance. You’ll likely have the computer for many years so having the extra speed will really make a difference. And you may really appreciate having the extra storage capacity in the future too!

Not only do you get 2x storage, it is also much faster than the base model which is hobbled by an SSD controller than runs at half the speed of the 512GB version. That said, if you need to save the $s most people won't notice the slower SSD (since all SSDs are still very fast compared to any spinning disk HD).
