Yes, this would be a high end option for college. I would recommend if they are going into graphic design, media, or something editing heavy. Otherwise, if it’s just general stuff for class the MacBook Air would be more than sufficient.

On the other hand, some students may take courses where they have to use more demanding software. In such cases, are they expected to purchase sufficient hardware (16GB RAM on this MacBook Pro seems low, 16GB was standard on laptops I bought many years ago that didn't cost as much as this) and the software? Or will they be able to remotely log into the school's Linux system of computers to run expensive software and take advantage of higher performance than what a mere laptop (M4 chip or better notwithstanding) can provide.
