I have the same issue. Apparently, we have to create a brand new email address to take advantage of the free 3 months. If you already have apple music you are ineligible for the free 3 months, which is completely stupid.

Please try again later.Hey I’m synxx and i would like to help you, I’m currently working at the Apple store so I can help you, if you ordered AirPods from the store make sure to look at your receipt for an Apple Music Redemptionational code, as though you ordered it online through Best Buy a code should have been sent to you for redemption, unfortunately if you already have Apple Music we can not add it on to your plan, but you can make a new email to get the full use out of your Apple Music with your AirPods

I learned a trick to get all the songs down into mp3 with TunesKit Audio Converter during my free trial and now I've canceled the subscription but still can listen to them.
