This pencil charges via magnetic connection to the tablet. The 1st gen pencil charges by connecting to the iPad charging port.

iPad Pro has a charge dock on the edge that the Pencil magnetically attaches to. When attached the iPad will flash a picture at the top of the screen to show “Charging “ and what the charge level of the Pencil is.

The pencil charges from the ipad. There is a magnetic strip on the top of the iPad to securely mount the pencil and it charges when placed there. The charge amount shows on the iPad.
