We bought this phone because it was unlocked. This phone is advertised as unlocked, which means it would work with any major cell phone carrier (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile) as long as you have a working SIM Card. If the iPhone is locked, or carrier-specific, it means it will only accept a compatible SIM Card that corresponds to that carrier. We bought this phone for my husband who loves the iPhone 8 Plus because of the button and its screen size. Unfortunately, his phone took a dip in the ocean. Turns out my husband's Sim Card got water damaged, and how we found out it wasn't working was that when we bought the replacement iPhone 8 Plus, the Sim wasn't working at all to connect to any network. We didn't know if it was an issue with the iPhone, the Sim Card reader, Sim Card compatibility, or my husband's original Sim Card that went swimming. The Best Buy Geek Squad tech tested the replacement iPhone's Sim Card reader using his own personal Verizon Sim Card and the phone worked beautifully, but not with my husband's SIm Card in it. So, the tech replaced my husband's Sim Card with a new AT&T one, and the phone also worked fine. So, I would expect the repurposed iPhone sold at Best Buy would work with Verizon based on our experience with the Geek Squad using his Verizon Sim Card to test the phone for us. In addition, the Geek Squad tech advised us that if it was advertised as unlocked, and it was not truly unlocked so we could use the Sim Card carrier of our choice, Best Buy would accept the return or replace it without issue as it was advertised as such.
