“I ran the Apple TV hdmi to tv and optical out to VIZIO soundbar. Problem is the sub doesn’t work with Apple TV? Sub Works with direct tv reciever and my blue ray player but not Apple TV. Anybody experiencing this?”

You did not indicate where the sub is connected to? The coolest thing available with Apple TV is through the Apple play it uses the Bluetooth signal to connect to a compatible receiver that is connected to your wireless network. So all sound can be sent to your audio wirelessly.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Apple TV Optical output can go through your TV if equipped & it will automatically send the sound to the sound bar. You just want to ensure you set up the settings correctly on your TV for any added HDMI devices. My Samsung 4K HDR TV has an HDMI Anynet+ which is what I have enabled on my TV & the sound goes to my Vizio soyndbar just fine between my DirectTV DVR, Apple 4K TV & blue ray player.
