The difference is with GPS you will need to keep your phone close by in order to get notifications and calls on your watch. ( roughly a 30’ range ) If you decide you want to leave your phone behind and still have the ability to connect you will want the cellular version which will require a monthly fee to your cellular service provider. Great watch, enjoy it.
