You do not need to have your phone with you. You can set up your Apple Watch cellular on your phone plan such that it will share a number with your phone even though it is actually a separate phone line (for which you will have to pay.) Our addition line on Verizon costs us $5 per month. The cellular coverage works essentially the same as it does on your phone.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have the GPS + Cellular on your watch you do not have to have your phone with you in order for your watch to receive calls/texts. It will work just like your phone as far as phone calls, texting, emails etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have a WiFi version only watch, you have to have your phone with you. If you have the cellular version and the watch is added to your cellular plan, you do not have to have your phone near as the watch basically replaces the phone. You can leave home without your phone.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No as long as you have cellular service on the watch it will act as a “phone”. I believe the cost is around $10 extra per month to get cellular on the watch and it is directly linked to your phone.
