There are a few ways, Jordan, of redeeming AppleCare+ for your device. First, when you purchase your Apple device from, say, Best Buy you'll be given a receipt that you should secure to ensure that you receive the benefit of the coverage dating from at-first-purchase. But I don't know of a scenario where Apple hasn't worked to honor any purchase date discrepancy for purposes of redeeming the service. Still, be on the safe side. Once you've found yourself in need of the service, you can either call Apple at Apple's 1 800 My Apple number and speak with a specialist who will troubleshoot whatever issue your device is having. They know their stuff, so you'll get a resolution over the phone regardless if it's a software or hardware issue. If walking through guided troubleshoot doesn't fix the issue, then you will be given the option to send the device for repair at an Apple-trusted-repair partner. I am pretty certain Best Buy's Geek Squad would be among them. Otherwise Apple will ship a fitted-box for your device via, in my experience, Fed-Ex. It'll arrive within two or three days, at which point you'll package your device and send it off for repair by delivering it to Fed-Ex where it gets shipped at no cost to you, with perhaps an exception or two depending on the number of times within a 12 month period you've needed, say, your device replaced. In my case, I had my Mac returned to me within a week (not accounting for the delay on my end in taking it to Fed-Ex; so I'm excluding delay-days I was responsible for). Additionally, if you have an Apple iPhone or iPad and download the Support application by Apple, you can accomplish all of this, should you prefer, by chatting via secure messaging with an Apple specialist, who will walk you through the same steps outlined above (more or less). You'll also receive brief but detailed instructions emailed on the steps described above. Another alternative, though there may be others, would be to go online to Apple's support page and, assuming you already have an Apple ID, take similar steps toward the same outcome via the web. Whichever route you take to redeem, the outcome will be a repaired or replaced device because AppleCares + more. All the best with your new (or soon to be) Apple device.
