• With any arlo pro, pro 2, pro 3 and ultra you require a base station. The smart hub or Vbm4540 is the base station for the arlo pro 3. Is the one I prefer. It has access to local storage I use the max external hard rice allowed 2 tb. Other wise you will need to purchase or pay for the cloud storage and smart notifications. Arlo pro 3 and ultra does not offer the 7 day free cloud storage the pro 2 offers. Do your own research in the arlo website and community forum.

• The answer is NO. You DO NOT need the base stations to use the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight camera. You do need a WiFi connection but you do not need the base station. I have this camera and it works just fine with great clarity with out the base station.
