• A:Answer For what it’s worth, I Purchased the Arlo essential spotlight camera kit, which has two cameras. I found it is useless without paying for the monthly subscription to “Arlo smart“. However the Arlo tech told me I could instead purchase the VMB 4540 which you were asking about. When I asked him how many cameras it would handle, his response was “if you purchase a hub, there is no limit on how many cameras it can handle. But one hub or base station allows up to five cameras to live stream at the same time”. I guess that’s the information you’re looking for, assuming he’s correct, you should be good to go with your 5 cameras. Good luck.

• A:Answer I’ve tried both. Without the subscription, you lose major functionality. Go buy a different system. I am so mad at myself for getting this garbage.

• A:Answer Arlo has discontinued their smart hubs altogether. They’re transitioning everything to a direct to wifi connected camera, with a cloud, that requires a monthly subscription. You can still piece together a decent setup with their backwards compatible cameras, if you have a smart hub, but they’re phasing everything towards end of life (EOL). This is to force you to purchase their darn subscription. Be sure to check the compatibility before buying any new Arlo products. If it has gen 2 in the name, it most likely has been moved to the cloud based server and will not connect to the smart hub. It’s frustrating, I hope they lose so much business that they reverse course.

• A:Answer Yes, it compatible with Arlo Pro 4 to utilize local storage feature. However, it does not work with Arlo Q camera, as it only connects directly to one's wifi network. ^RM

Q: QuestionI have 8 of the original arlo cameras. will this hub support all my cameras? I am not interested in live streaming all my cameras at the same time. what is the maximum amount of cameras that this hub will support?

• A:Answer Yes, it is compatible. Check out this Knowledge Base article for more information: https://kb.arlo.com/000062284. You can stream up to a theoretical maximum of 15 Arlo cameras at the same time, but this is dependent on your system set up and your Arlo Smart plan. Additionally, you might not be able to stream from all five cameras per SmartHub or base station if your WiFi network has limited bandwidth or if you are uploading other files while Arlo is streaming.

Q: QuestionWhat are all the differences (other than price) between the Arlo Pro Smarthub & the Arlo Ultra Smarthub? Arlo doesn't provide any useful information in their writeup about either regarding performance.

Q: QuestionHi. I have 4 pro 2 cameras, 3 pro 4 and 1 spot light camera. All running on my VMB 4000 bass hub. My 4 pro 2 cameras I can review when they get trip, but my 3 pro 4 and spot light will not!!! Will the smart hub fix this problem? Thanks
