Many of the internet providers want you to use their equipment instead of your own because they make money off of renting their equipment. The installer came out to my house to help me. He had to call back to the service provider a couple of times until he got someone who was willing to add the Arris to my plan. Several of the people he called told him it was not compatible but he told me he knew it was so he just kept calling until he found someone. You might need to keep calling and get different service people on the line until you find someone that is willing to add the modem.
