Depends on what kind of speeds you're paying for. Best to call them and verify a router is going to work with the service you have with them also before you make a purchase. This is a great modem/router but may be more than you need if you're just going to be streaming media primarily.

Do your research, and pick the best combo that is right for you. I have no complaints (except for the price) of the SBG8300. I can say it is working for my specific needs. This model can also be set up using your smartphone using the app. It has wireless capabilities so if you are planning to use a smart tv on wifi just add it to your network. Since my main smart-tv is near the modem, i just plug it in direct. There are 3 more ethernet (RJ- 45) ports we use for other devices. We have two other smart-tvs that are connected via wifi. Also an Xfinity customer and using the former SBG6782-AC modem/router, i noticed recently after a few years of ownership, every web page seems to buffer or run slower every time i tried to open a page or use a smart-tv app. I recently purchased a 3rd smart tv and ring device and it just seemed to worsen. Next solution was to add a mesh network and it did not help. I finally purchased the SBG8300 and the network is perfect now. IMO i think it has more to do with Xfinity (just like cell phone companies) using their way of subtly forcing you to upgrade your equipment (to newer) that they prefer on their network. I say this because i noticed the problems, Xfinity advertised that their network made internet upgrades, and Xfinity said that my old device was discontinued.
