“Does this cable modem have a backup battery capability in case of a power outage for the phone line?”

• It does not, but why worry about a battery backup for just the modem when you can get a UPS that backs up your modem, pc, monitor, and wifi router at the same time with auto shutdown when you lose power. I recommend the APC 660VA UPS with 6 ports and 1 USB. If that solution doesn't work for you, and you require a modem with battery backup then buy a combination modem/wifi from Arris that does have a battery backup, or another vendor.

• My arris tg1682 has a compartment for a battery and there is word imprinted on the front panel where the lights are that says "battery"

• It does not have a battery backup, but you could add an UPS to the system to create your own back-up system.
